Garrison is receiving iron infusions every 3 weeks now as well as the remicade. He is always freezing but cannot wear anything long sleeve because of the iv. So, I was thinking about cutting up the sleeves of a zip up hoodie and then putting velcro up the sleeves. That way he can leave the sleeves partically open but still remain warm. Do you think the nurses will allow it?

Thanks,
Vicky

Fab idea Vicky! :thumleft:

They will be still be able access the site quickly and easily so I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed.

Good luck and let us know how you get on with it!

do you know anybody who sews that could make an IV compatible jacket? My mom made me an IV compatible bathrobe out of fleece material and I always get compliments from the nurses and staff when I am an inpatient plus she made me fleece hospital gowns that are IV compatible and fleece caps for my head so I don't get cold. they really work at keeping the body warm. hope that helps. take care. GW :)

I don't know where you live but I do know that Joann Fabrics has patterns for hospital gowns and she improvised for the bathrobe. I bet you could improvise for the jacket and use the pattern for that. My mom did that and it worked great.

It's freezing in our infusion room too, but we wear long sleeves and they put the iv in her hand. Great idea!

Thanks guys. I bought the sweatsuit and took the seams out. My mom is going to either use velcro or binding tape to close it back up. He gets his next treatment on Friday so I will let you know if it works.
GW, if it were me, I would love to wear a warm fleece gown, but I don't think Garrison would go for that. Something about boys not wearing dresses.....:cool2:

Take care,
Vicky

I will also wear something that is big enough for me to just slide the sleeve up....although I do like the idea of the slit with the velcro...easy access!

Well, for the most part it worked like a charm. Sad to say Garrison wore it 3 times this week. He had an iron infusion, remicade treatment and a blood transfusion. We should have made the slits in the arms to go a few inches past the elbow crease, but it did the job. He did get a little warm one time but there was not way to take it off. (This one and only time he has been warm during a treatment. LOL) If interested, I would be happy to give more detailed instructions.

Take care,
Vicky

Hey Vicky,

Thanks for the update! So great to hear your fab idea worked so well...:panda::panda::panda: But sorry to hear it has had such a workout. :( I hope it stays in the cupboard longer from now on!
