Hi guys,

After 12 years with Crohn's it is time for me to have my first bit of surgery.
I'm due a ilea cecal resection and have perhaps done the wrong thing and read into it online.
I've seen many case studies where people have very bad BM after the surgery and almost permanent loose stool. How likely is this to be the case for me?

Has anyone had this opp and can tell me how their experience went with it?

any information or help would be great to help me out.

My son had an ileocecectomy last August. It may depend on how much of the ileum is being respected. My son really has no issues with his bla(but his were normal before surgery too). So he goes maybe once a day sometimes two and it is soft but not D.

Also there are things to help if this does occur like Questran. I'm going to tag Dusty as both of her kids have dealth with this surgery.

I have had this surgery, too. Sometimes, I have a few days with diarrhea, but not constantly by any stretch. Really, its been just fine. I don't know if its normal, or I am just lucky. How much bowel is to be resected (inches/centimeters)?

Thanks for the response guys.

I'm having 8cm or small bowel, my ilea cecal and a small part of my terminal ileum removed.

Not sure if this is a lot or an amount I will bounce back from.

How long was your recovery after this?

I get the occasional day or two with loose stools, but mostly it's completely normal.

The Ileum is something like 3 or 4 metres long, so 8cm is nothing. I had 20cm removed. Only real issue is that the terminal Ileum is where almost all B12 is absorbed, so you'll need injections for life.

I was pretty much okay after a week or so, and was able to go back to work in less than three, but of course everybody is different.
