Hey all, so had my resection 4 days ago now and bowel are fully working :) wind started day 2 post op and bm at 5:30 this morning. I was just wondering how long after bowels have woken up did you get to go home. Iv got no pain as well :)
Im 17 years old and really don't want to stay in hospital much longer. Doctors rounds this morning so hoping he says i can go home... Just interested on how long after your bowel opened did you go home.
Thanks x

I don't remember when I started passing stool but I was let go on the 7th day. That was over a decade ago and I've heard of people being sent home as early as the 4th day (after surgery). Keep us posted on when they're setting you free. Glad you're feeling so well so soon. :)

Hi. Don't blame you for wanting out. Once I was back on food and able to tolerate it for 24 hrs they let me go. Usually 7 days. Hope your out soon. Oh...and everything should be working.

Glad you're doing so well :) . I was allowed home 4 days after my operation, as soon as i could get around and everything was functioning. Obviously everyone is different but it sounds like youre doing very well so hopefully it wont be long before they let you go :)

I am going for a resection and have seen that you spend about a week in hospital but what I need to know is how long until you can go back to worm afterwards as I am the breadwinner and don't get paid sick pay

For me they said id need at least 6-8 weeks between the op and uni, but i do have to move away for uni its quite a demanding course. It generally depends on how the operation goes, how you recover and if there are any complications plus what type of job you have. Eg. A mannual, labour intensive job would need a longer break than a desk job.
In the UK you can apply to the DWP for sick pay if you dont get it from your employer
