Nine yrs with Crohn's and still have new symptoms!! And unexpected changes....
I have gone through every possible treatment from 5-ASA to Methotrexate, Imuran, Prednisone, & Remicade... Flare-ups kept attacking, and recently had three flare-ups in 8 months!! While I am on Remicade, I am on Prednisone as well...
two weeks ago, another flare-up attack, and the pain on the left side of my belly was too much to handle, it was only after 80 mg of prednisone & some Tramadol to ease the pain and stop the severe diarrhea!
My Doc scheduled me on Sep 17th, for an Ileoscopy, Colonoscopy & Gastroscopy! Three scopies at once as he believe I might have to go to a surgical opt.

It is the first time I hear about an Ileoscopy? Can they go this deep?

Did you develop Kidney stones? And do our treatments affect our Memory abilities? (asking as I have developed kidney stones and my doc says it is associated with Crohn's & I feel I have Memory problems!!)...

From my understanding an Ileoscopy is when during a Colonoscopy they are able to maneuver the scope into the lower end of the Ileum to visualise it and biopsy. ???

Kidney stones are quite common when there is active and extensive Crohns in the terminal ileum as uric acid levels tend to be high.

Good luck with the scopes!!! and please keep us posted on how you go.

All the best, :)

Hi again Cruxy! You may want to consider the option of a pill-cam with your GI!! Here is a link for this test...

Thanks,

My doc said that the pill-cam can't be done as it might get stuck somewhere into the ileum!

Thanks Dusty, I assumed the same thing.. will definitely keep you posted...

I agree, pill cams are good for some patients but if you have inflammation, best not to go that route and your doctor is right, a few have had to have them surgically removed, colonoscopies and endoscopies are safer and they put you out! Keep us updated!

Hang in there!! Sounds like you've been on just about every drug I've been on without much luck!

I also get the pleasure of kidney stones. i use to get them very regularly. I can't ever pass them b/c my ureters are really small.. so I always have to end up having them removed.. and then the stent placements afterward ... ughh... they're terrible.

The only time I have a memory problem is when I take my Bentyl. I never realized it was a side effect until I was reading the pamphlet one day trying to figure out if I could take it while pregnant!! lol.. and yep.. it can cause forgetfulness, makes me spacey and things like that!

Hi Cruxy: Prednisone can cause problems with "verbal memory" -- not really a technical term, but a catchall to refer to that wonderful problem of losing your words, when you can't think about what you're trying to say.

My sister says it sounds like I am stuttering and that she feels like she is talking to a different person -- and I'm not on nearly as high a Pred dosage as you are!!!! 80 mg, wow, what a trooper you are.

Hello Kelly,

What you've said describes exactly what I am suffering from!! a lot of times i lose the track of words!! I forget what I was talking about and shift to another subject.. Now a day i try to rehearse things in my head before I go into a meeting or write a small scratch that would help me remember things!!

I am used to 80 mg of pred!! I don't gain weight, but unfortunately i suffer from HBP when on pred and that is why I am always on a Salt-Free diet!! :(
