Grace has been very ill and on the verge of pneumonia.
The doc told us today that if her chest X-Ray shows pneumonia that she might be admitted to the hospital.

I've already been told not to do her Mtx and humira.

How long has your child had to go without their meds because of illness?

Do you find that every illness kicks their butt or does it differ sometimes?

Really sorry to hear Grace is so sick.
My daughter doesn't get sicker than usual on her meds, and she doesn't get sicker more often either.
My older daughter had to stop mtx and Humira for 3 weeks when she got her wisdom teeth out. When she got back on them she was flaring and Humira didn't help much and we eventually had to go to Remicade. That's not typical though.

Sorry to hear FW :( I don't have any advice, this situation hasn't come up with S. :ghug:

Sorry your baby is sick, I hope she gets better soon. My daughter has not had any illness other than a simple cold.

Poor little thing! I'm sorry she's having such a rough time. We've not had a situation like this, so I have no advice to offer. I hope things start looking up for Grace soon. Take care!

Oh no FW :( …sending squishy hugs your way…:ghug: I hope Grace soon gets on top of things and ca avoid hospital, bless her.

Up to this point in time I haven’t found my two react any differently to illness than the average and I do think at times they seem to shake things off a bit quicker.

Thinking of you and your lass.

We have had to hold Lucy's shot twice due to infection, both occasions I got bloodwork and sent to GI for decision on whether to hold or not, bloods were repeated 5 days later on both ocassions and we were good to go. So sorry grace is unwell, I definately find that when Lucy gets sick it hits her harder than her sister and brother. Really hope grace gets over this infection soon. Hugs Polly

Thanks everyone. She's slipping back into full bronchitis, she vomited a couple times last night, it was all the drainage I think. I should find out results of the x-ray this morning. Even if it's clear I guess we still need to stop this somehow.

Have a good day y'all.

Since starting mtx A has had a UTI and a stomach virus. We didn't stop the shots for either. She is now coming down with a cold but I don't plan on holding her shot. A has always had a hard time recovering from illnesses and the mtx doesn't make it any worse.

Has Grace had a full immune workup? If not, I think it is definitely something worth asking about. A doesn't seem to get sick more often than other kids, just that when she gets sick she gets REALLY sick or the illness lingers. Turns out she is low in IgG as well as having low WBC and that's something we have to monitor.

Sorry Grace is sick. Hope the x-rays are clean and she feels better quickly. I know from Jack the MTX caused some lung issues with him but he had some other skin rashes issues from it as well. One of the rarer side effects of mtx is lung scarring, not saying that is any part of what is going on just something to be aware of.

No pneumonia in the X-Ray but her gp said he wants to see more improvement by Monday.:yfaint:

We were told by the rheumatologist and her gp, not to do the shots until marked improvements are made in her health. No labs have been done in six weeks. Her WBC was already low. :eek:I shutter to think how low is now.

Dance mom she had all the work ups and it was in normal range.

Grace's coughing is so deep but her face cold seems to be getting better.
Her asthma action plan is still being followed. She's on her nebulizer 5 times a day.

Jmroger4 that is something to be aware of with lung scarring. Do you know how the scarring takes place? Is it because of coughing or other causes.

Methotrexate-induced lung disease is a potentially dangerous lesion, which may occur acutely at any time during therapy and which has been reported at doses as low as 7.5 mg/week. It is not always fully reversible. Pulmonary symptoms (especially a dry, nonproductive cough) may require interruption of treatment and careful investigation.

But I would imagine they would have seen something on the x-ray if that was the case. Just wanted to put it out there so you can cross it off.

Interesting and good to know. I don't think that is the case for Grace but my girl seems to be on the rarer side of things.:yfaint:

That's just because our kids are overachievers! I didn't realize there was any connections when Jack was on Mtx, he had that awful cough took him to the pediatrician who said he had bronchitis (on a Friday), he had a GI check up on Monday. The GI heard the cough when he came in and said stop the Mtx and the cough went away for the most part. Only happens now when it is really cold and he's breathing it in or running a lot. The cracked bleeding rashes on his hands that derm said couldn't possibly be from Mtx went away as well when we stopped.

Sometimes the nebulizer (Albuterol, Xopenex, etc.) meds just aren't enough to kick a nasty cough. Sometimes a short burst of prednisone or dexamethasone is needed. We went through this with my youngest not too long ago. One of her lungs became hyperinflated and the Albuterol just wasn't helping. A few days of Prednisone made all the difference.

Dance mom, She was upped from 5 to 20 in prednisone for seven days because of this illness. That was five days ago.

Has she ever had dexamethasone? That always worked well for my little one when she had croup. Often times she'd get an injection in the office and within 15 minutes we'd see a marked difference.

I know how scary respiratory illnesses can be. My girls have colds now and I'm on edge that it may turn into something more. Hopefully Grace can get some rest over the weekend and start feeling better. Sometimes sleep is the best medicine.

Really sorry to hear that Farmwife. M is just turning the corner I think - it's taken almost two months of Humira + sulfasalazine (and this is relatively fast for her). The waiting is the worst part.
I hope Grace starts feeling better soon, thinking of you guys.

Off to the ER.
Gave shot of mtx last night. This morning a huge open ulcer:eek2: in her mouth, cough picking back up, ear ache and legs in to much pain to walk.
Why does this happen on a weekend.:ymad:

Hope she is doing better
But you posted yesterday the Gi/gp didn't want you to give the shot until she really improved ????

Still waiting for hubby.:ymad:

She slept though the night and her fever broke for a long while before giving the shot.
Trust me I'm already feel like the worst mom :confused2:for not waiting another day.

I'm hoping they will run labs. I don't want to give the humira before I know for sure what her CBC count looks like.

Sending lots of healing thoughts. Don't feel bad for giving the shot, us moms can only try our best. Hope they see Grace quickly once you get to ER

You may want to ask the GI / rhuemo for the future but we are not permitted to give DS humira unless he has been fever free for more than 24-48 hours .

Haven't been on for a few days I missed so much. Hopefully she is feeling much better now. Sending lots of hugs!

:rosette2:Thanks for asking. She got better and had the humira a couple days ago.
Cough is starting back up and runny nose.:ymad:
To make matters more confusing my son and I are sick with a virus.
So it's possible she has another virus or it's the humira.:yfaint:
At least she's on an antibiotic.

The good news is she had a regular bowel movement.
That's an improvement for sure.
