I am a 21 year old college football player. Last summer I noticed I was losing weight like crazy. In April I was 285lbs and in great shape. Well by the end of June I was down to 235 and not by choice. I was eating like crazy and working out and just couldn't keep it on. I started using the restroom more and more and feeling dehydrated all the time despite all the water I was drinking. I had a colonoscopy the day before we started fall camp and found out I have crohns. I got put on asocol and prednizone, but didn't react well. I was super tired, sickly feeling, and spacey. Ended up not playing all season because I just couldn't put a whole practice together without getting sick or havin to go. I have been on the same to drugs until now the doc added imuran. I still feel like crap from day to day, but the urgency is better. We've talked about remicade now but I don't know if I wanna do that yet. I could go on and on but I won't bore you all to much...Any how what do you all think of remicade?

Hi Jokrier

I'm sorry this disease has taken such a toll on your life interests, particularly with football. Have you been able to stay in school, or were you too sick?

It's unfortunate that you didn't respond well to prednisone---it's an evil drug, but it sure does do a good job for most people in getting their symptoms under control. Like you, though, I also didn't react well to prednisone.

There is a specific subforum in the "Treatment" section of this forum titled "Remicade" and I would encourage you to peruse some of the threads on there and perhaps post your own specific questions for feedback from others. I was on Remicade but it didn't work for me, which was too bad because I know that it gave so many people their life back. Oh well.

Welcome to the forum---I look forward to reading your posts.

Cheers,

Kismet

Welcome to the forum Jokrier! Hopefully something can get you back on track enough so you can do what you love. There is lots of info on here that I hope can help in some way. I haven't been on Remicade but there are tons of people on here that have been or are. Take care of yourself as best you can. We're all here for support.

Hi hopefully you'll get good advice here I was only diagnosed last yr and spent a lot of it feeling rough which just isn't like me after a couple of months I ended up needing surgery and since then I feel good. I'm not saying you need surgery but everyone here responds to different treatments may it be certain medication or possibly surgery. One thing in common is it can take a while to find the correct treatment choice and it can be trial and error. Hopefully you'll get good advice here and you find a treatment choice soon that gets you feeling better again. What other tests have you had and where is the crohns etc?

Hi and welcome! I am sorry you weren't able to play the season due to your Crohn's. That must have been very difficult. The goal now is to get you well so you can get back to doing what you love. And it can happen! Did you know David Garrard with the Jacksonville Jaguars has Crohn's?

How long have you been taking Imuran? It can take several months to take full effect. I don't have experience with Remicade, but I know many have done well with it. I am sure you'll find a lot of useful information in the Remicade Club.
