So a few people here know that I'm a sculptor and that I finished getting my MFA in 2009. After a year of not finding a job and not making enough money to create any sculptures and seeing all these painters getting press, I've decided to start painting instead. It's cheaper really plus I used to paint but I thought of it as more of a hobby for me. You can paint on anything but I plan on buying already painted on canvases from thrift stores and painting over other people's landscapes. :p I even still have some paint left over plus working in acrylics is real cheap compared to the sculptures I was making. I'm excited about doing this and I think I'll do well and probably upset all the other painters I know cause I'm stepping on their turf. Prepare yourselves painters cause you're in for a bumpy ride!

Here's some of my sculptures:

Very impressive, Jennifer. As a New York-ophile, I particularly like the mythical creature atop the Chrysler Building. As a woodworker, I can relate to your concerns about the cost of materials. I like to use recovered materials when I can, both for economic reasons, and because I feel it gives my work an added "artifact" dimension. Hope you find an answer, so you can keep on sculpting.

I'll keep sculpting when I get the money to do it. I like to work in wax and then get it cast into bronze (which is what fallen angel on top of the Chrysler building is). Sadly it gets really expensive. I also need to save up money for my own kiln so I don't have to worry about where I can get my ceramic pieces fired. And thank you, I hope I get all this figured out too.

Aww...I wish I was creative like that. Drawing and visual arts was never my specialty, haha! You have a talent, Crabby :) i hope you find a way to do what you love, no matter which genre you end up sticking with!

That dragon bowl and sword look awesome
lots of detail
pity you don't hav a friend near you that does te same
then you could go halves in a kiln or something

best of luck sorting things out and keep up the great work

Thank you. I wish I could get someone or a few someones to go in with me on a couple kilns (cause I want a raku kiln too). Any takers? :p I'm kidding, some day I'll get one and when I do, I'll help other people fire their work too! :D

Sounds good
I'm a total car nut myself so I know what it's like to want something but can't hav it lol
then one day you've saved the cash and get it very rewarding
got myself a proper mechanics car hoist hehe always wanted one of them lol
no more laying under cars for me haha

hope ya get the kiln soon be good see some more of the sculputres, I've got a thing for dragons an swords lol

Your art is amazing! I hope everything works out for you. I love art and I know how expensive the supplies are. I'll keep an eye out for you if I see any deals...I am in Riverside County so I am not to far from you.

Your work is amazing!! I feel you on how expensive supplies can be :( I'm a graphic artist myself but also do traditional art time to time when I can (as if buying the Adobe Suite dosent take almost 1500 dollars as it is)

I like the ?crumbling infinity? What were you going for on the one just above it? Frozen, moldy war? :) It's cool whatever it is.

That one is called "Bound" and its about 7ft tall. I meant it to be a pair of wings being bound by some force and the wings are crashing towards to floor. Its hung just inches above the floor meaning that it hasn't crashed yet but could. All of the works relate to my life in some way. Both of them are welded steel and Bound also has spray foam.

I have no flair for art appreciation but your description of Bound somehow makes me sad for you. It's such a personal and painful statement. It's beautiful and your talent is nowhere near crashing. I hope Bound's inspiration is less compelling these days.

Try mashed potatoes. It worked for Richard Dryfuss in Close Encounters with the Third Kind.
