Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with immune boosting supplements.

In these days of cold weather, I am considering taking

  • Beta-glucan
  • Echinacea
  • Propolis
  • Sambucus

They might maybe prevent cold sores as well as I usually get them every other month.

Appreciate any experience or scientific publication you heard of...

beta glucan is in oats, i eat oats every day. and there is a major difference in health boosting properties between traditional and instant. traditional oats are better. and ther eis some science that backs this up that i found.

other supps to consider- vitamin d, colostrum.

Look also at how they work. I think echinecea is an immune irritant, which means it causes a reaction so the immune system is put into gear, not good for people like me who have to conserve what we have. It can be slow to rebuild if u burn it up.

Propolis is interesting and full of other nutrients. But also an allergy issue for some. Put any of these between cheek and gum for an hour, see if it burns or causes sores

Zinc is actually excellent as an added dietary item, vitamin D and if u absorb poorly, vitamin b complex

Make sure of absorbtion, urine is a good indicator, darker yellow, strong smell, yes you are absorbing, and probably too much going to waste :)

I do believe echinacea should be avoided by those with auto-immune diseases as duwardian posted.I used it pre-crohn's for tea.Ginger and garlic are o.k. to use.

I am allergic to ginger, cinnamon, garlic and quite a few healthy items. Apples are a big no. So be aware of the ingredients. You can very easily aggravate your condition with good intentions.
