I am a 48 year old female with "stomach" problems since my early 20's. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with IBS. Fast forward to the last couple of years and the "stomach" problems have increased to an epic proportion. We moved to a different state 3 years ago and have been reluctant to seek out a GI specialist, but in March I decided I couldn't take it any longer. My normal days are diarrhea or loose stools up to 5 times a day. every couple of weeks that increases to 15-20 a day, and then about 1 time every month I am having up to 30 watery movements a day for up to 5 days. This is accompanied by severe pain and it feels like I am on fire in my lower right stomach area. I have dry heaves...sitting on the toilet with a trash can in case, but I can't eat much during these times so nothing is coming up..just heaving. This last bout I soiled myself during my sleep and it just smells horrible and looks like there is undigested fats and proteins (yellow seed like things floating on the water)I am also having heart palpitations -Dr, said probably dehydration. I had a upper endoscopy in March, results were ulcers, esophagitis, hiatal hernia, gastritis. I saw her again a couple of days ago. I don't think she believes I am having that many BM's during these flares. She said I can send you home with a collection kit but most people don't return it because they aren't having true diarrhea. If you are having that much diarrhea you can give a sample no problem over at the lab? I said yes I can. As soon as I stood up to leave of course I had to go...squeezing my buns I left to give my sample and blood work. They gave me the collection kit along with a tongue depressor for putting it in the respective tubes...what was I suppose to do with that...this is pure water...so I poured it in the tubes. So now, I'm at 6-7 BM's but cramping and still in pain but at least I am not living on the toilet. I am exhausted, I told her I am just exhausted...I even cried....I am not a crier but I am drained....literally. I am waiting for the results of these test and I am afraid I will never get any relief from what ever is going on. I also forgot to mention that I do have visible blood in my stool, not every time but mostly when I am cramping really bad. What does this sound like, IBS or IBD?

Welcomed. I am sorry for all you are going through. I would guess, with the blood, it is probably IBD but I don't know. Please let us know when you get the results back from the doctor. Hoping the best for you.

Thanks Ron. I just feel like there will never be an end to this. I forgot to mention also that I've had rectum pain for the past 4 years and I also run a low grade fever at the height of the flare....How do you combat fatigue? Thank God we run our own business but there is a lot of work to do when you own 3 apartment complexes....I think the stress of it isn't helping at all. I just feel lost....in limbo...and so tired....

Not eating is going to add to the exhaustion. Have you tried the brat diet, bananas, rice apple sauce, toast. And lots of fluids to replace what you've lost. I like gatorade type drinks when flaring. Hope you get answers soon.

My DR. called yesterday evening. She said my stool samples were negative for bacteria, parasites. My blood work just showed an elevated white count and way too many red blood cells. A light bulb went off in my head and I asked her if that was like having too much blood in my body and iron, she said yes. I told her of bleeding after I had my son, 26 years ago, and they rushed me to emergency surgery, when I woke up they were astonished that I was barely anemic. I had bleeding problems off and on and it was getting pretty bad so I saw my gyno, she checked me and thought I was bleeding out, wouldn't let me leave until blood work came back...over heard them talking that I must be like a horse, not anemic, too much blood. I was then told some time later I needed to give blood because I had too much. I never gave blood, no one told me the dangers of having too much blood and it was way before the internet so I had no clue it was of any importance. I looked it up last night, iron overload, that's what my Dr. Called it. Many of my symptoms, including diabetes, liver pain, heart problems (having a stress test next week, plus I take meds for tachycardia) are on the list, and fatigue! We are going to schedule more test and see what's going on. The iron deposits in your organs and damages them. I just want to know what's going on and I pray I didn't cause this by being ignorant and not doing as I was told....uhhggg

start first by looking at your diet. Are you including enough cooked vegetables with each meal? I include pancreatin and ox bile with my meals to break down the fat, protein, and carbs.

Here's an example, almost each morning I'll have a pound or more of frozen sweet peas cooked, lathered with some healthful butter/ goat butter, or duck fat, lightly cooked egg or one raw egg yolk, with generous amounts of organic dried cilantro leaf and/or parsley leaf so it's not as fatty tasting. On top of that I'll bake up some organic swiss chard leaves and/or collard greens in olive oil with cumin seed powder, garlic powder, and sea salt. With that meal I'll have those digestive supplements I mentioned earlier, some kelp (for iodine primarily), TMG, and certain other supplements.
