Had a resection and scar tissue removal at Mayo last January and have been doing very well until recently.:dusty: I was sitting at the computer, got up and now have a dull pain and hardness in the area of the old stoma site and obvious scar tissue (felt long before this episode) . Worried sick that it is a hernia. Do I see the ostomy nurse, or a the surgeon who was my aftercare provider to determine what this is. Also, how do they test for a hernia. I did have a blockage 20 years ago as the result of a stomal hernia. I am very concerned.:frown:

Easy answer,go to your doctor odds are you done one of these daft muscle pulls we,ve all done and it,ll fix itself but it's coming up to Xmas and new year, don,t spoil it by worry.doctor.good luck all the best

Hold your hand over where your suspected hernia is and cough. In theory if it is an incisional hernia, you should feel it something pop out when you cough.
As far as a doctor testing, they can generally press around the area and can feel it, filing that it should show up in a CT or MRI.

Thank you very much. Saw Ostomy nurse who thinks it is a hernia, although she didn't feel for it.....just had me lay flat for an hour. She took measurements for a belt and suggested I see a surgeon. Have an appt in early January.
