So my insurance company decided that they were suddenly going to stop covering a certain blood test related to my taking 6mp. It look like its for a test called 6-tgn or something. They say its experimental and wont cover it. I have appealed it once and im going to have to appeal it a second time. They covered it in the past (although occasionally with some difficulties) so I dont know why they suddenly think its experimental. If you take 6mp can you please list the blood tests u get and if insurance covers it.

Thanks.

I used to take 6mp and my insurance covered it. Are you in the states.

Man I hate insurance companies more and more. I hope you get all of this settled. Best of luck

I get what I believe they called a CBC on a monthly basis for my Imuran (125mg/day)...insurance covers some of it, I pay like $15 per test.

CBC would be a complete blood count. There's no more simple blood test. They just count how many white and red blood cells you have. People even get CBC for colds. The insurance company probably doesn't even know or care why you got it. :)

The reason you're getting one is to make sure your white cells aren't too low and you've gotten defacto AIDs from immuno-suppresant.

Maybe it's also something else too? I thought they not just counted cells, but I thought they were monitoring my liver counts for marks too. ??

They cover the cbc just fine its this other one that is supposed to be about how much of the 6mp medicine is in my body. I think the name is actually something like this: "PRO-Predict 6MP / azathioprine, PROPredict Metabolites". Hard to find alot of info on it but it seems other insurance companies refuse to pay for it also.

Sounds like the Prometheus test, I had one of those a couple months ago to check my Imuran levels to see if it was effective at my current dose.
