I have been on a liquid only Elemental Diet for the past month and have been told i can now introduce food...yey!

I am on a low residue, low fibre diet and have been told absolutely NO vegetables or fruit. Not even seed or skin less!

Along with the n wholegrain/seed/nut thing.

I'm just worried that if i'm eating white of everything and no veg i will get constipated. A person without crohns would have trouble going on this diet!

Any tips?

Hi sadie,
I hate the low residue diet. I find it unhealthy. i was told to go on it after my last scope showed 50cm of inflammation. i was never sent to a dietician. it was just what the colo-rectal nurse told me. i was told an apple would be detremental to my gut!!! what a statement. A list of what we can eat would be better for us than telling us what we cant eat.
anywho, can you eat ready break or ground oats? maybe visit a health food shop and ask about physillium husk? ive read about a few people using that.

my GP said to me the last day that when you have diarrhea you must not eat any fibre. i thought about that for a long time and it still didnt make sense.
maybe someone else can chime in with their knowledge.

me again, i just clicked on the low residue diet info and it explains it well.
I know it horrible being constipated but you are giving your bowel the rest it needs.

I am also trying to stick to low residue so I juice every morning for breakfast. It wont add fibre to the diet but it does stop you from missing out on the other good stuff in fruit and veg.
This morning I had raw beetroot , celery, apple , carrot and pineapple juice. It was delish and now I can eat rubbish all day and not feel so bad.....so pass me the cake !

thanks everyone!

I'm going to try the juicing you all recommended! I just don't want to end up bloated and spotty because of my lack of veg... Only thing is, i am a student and dont own a blender/juicer!

Will have to invest as a juice for breakfast sounds healthy and nice :) Not sure about the ready break! I will have to check my sheet or ring the dietician.

There are some quite cheap juicers around , I would try if possible to pay a bit more and check the reviews, one that's easy to use and clean will be worth it as you will use it more - though I can understand a student budget is tight :)

One tip is to get one with a chute big enough for whole fruit such as apples to fit in, so less chopping and prep work will be necessary.

that's great, thanks for the advice! What sort of mixes do you guys have? I have never juiced anything before and have no idea what goes together. I don't like bananas so they are out of the question. :)

carrot and apple,
pineapple and strawberry
a good idea is to have a look next time you pass a juice bar for ideas.
all mine would have banana cuz i love bananas

The juice master is a bit of a juicing guru there are some recipes on here to download.

But to be honest I just stock up on a load of fruit and veg - apples celery carrots pear lemon lime pineapple beetroot (raw not the cooked salad stuff hehe) and stick it all in or a bit of what I fancy .
If you like sweet things it is best to have a good amount of fruit to veg ratio - but don't ignore the veg as that is often good for detoxing the system.
