New to the forum, and actually found the forum while surfing the web about some crohn's related problems. I'm 30 years old now and don't drink very often, and if I do it is normally straight liquor, both to avoid the bloated feeling of drinking beer and perhaps consequently the aggravation of crohn's related symptoms. I had a very bad experience in college, which could have, perhaps, claimed my life. At a small house party while playing a drinking game I had decided I reached my limit and bowed out. 10-20 minutes later however, I puked relentlessly until dry heaving in pain. This episode seemed to also aggrovate all my crohn's related symptoms as well, temporarily. Ended up waking up in an ER room the next day and I only felt sore/exhausted/foolish/lucky, but not at all symptomatic of crohn's. Needless to say I've been afraid of alcohol ever sense. I haven't gotten "wasted" sense that night and don't really ever intend or want to but I would love to hear any sort of other story someone has to share, or just what they have learned about how alcohol/beer has affected their life.

I,ve always had a problem with beer due to the bloated feeling as a result of all the carbonation.

But then I traveled to Ireland and discovered Stouts. Guinnes f.ex is very lightly carbonated and I happen to love the stuff. And when I drink it, I also tend to drink less, as I am an old fart now at the ripe old age of 41 (according to my 17 year old stepson) so my days of binge drinking is more or less over...

Anyway, with the meds you are probably taking you should be carefull with alcohol, anyway.

I think choice of beer has a lot to do with it - I can't stand our local beer here, but have discovered a real fondness for Polish beer. Likewise, I don't go overboard - half bottle is my normal limit. You could have fun experimenting!

Like Norseman, I can drink stouts. But ales, forget it...not even one. But I usually stay away from beer much for the same reasons as already mentioned. One or two is my limit. I generally drink wine, but am finding that increasingly more difficult to tolerate as well. I am beginning to see a dry future for myself...

Forget the beer, not good for you but if you must maybe try to drink ones that are gluten free(most beers aren't) since some people with CD have a gluten intolerance. Maybe it'll make a difference?

I find that I can't drink any kind of alcohol, beer or not, without aggravating my crohns, so I avoid it all together.

I dont think anyone with a medical condition or illness should be drinking alcohol as its considered a poison and beer has heaps of yeast that can't be good for someone with an IBD
