The only time I get D is when i've eaten onions and then I get the biggest flares ever for me. So I obviously avoid onions.

I always have C though. For the last few months the C was every 3 days with out fail so I lived my life around the days I needed to stay at home.

I feel all bloated and if I don't go to the toilet, it feels as though the poo is all building up in my insides and it makes me feel really sick and I feel as though I need to go to the toilet, but I can't. Then when my body finally lets me go I sit on the toilet knowing I can eventually go, but still takes ages of pushing to.. well get it out. Then when I begin actually pooing, it starts off like the size of pebble, so it's not hard to push out when i've got going, but then after the pebbles I will have to push out the mother of all poos which actually stops me from walking properly for hours!!

I always go in the evening or night nowadays. When it was every 3 days it was the afternoon.

I don't understand the sudden change of BM patterns.

Is this even anything to do with crohns? Most people talk about diarrhea not constipation.. so is it normal but rare and i'm odd, or is it something else and I don't actually have crohns? :stinks:

Oh and i'm not on any medications.

I have to be honest, that doesn't sound like Crohn's to me. I have heard of people being constipated from Crohn's- but little poos, because the intestines are narrowed, not the 'mother of all poos' that you describe.

I sometimes get the feeling of needing to go, but then can't- I think it's because of scarring in my rectum which tricks my body into thinking I need to go when I don't. But then I don't get diarrhoea much either- only in response to certain foods (eg too much fibre)

Tasha, have you tried Amitiza, this is an ibs med. It is not a laxative but is supposed to make you regular. If you havent tried it, you should ask your doctor about it. I have been on it sice last friday. So far I cant tell much, but my gp says his ibs patients have had very good results with it.

Pheww, I thought that because no one really has constipation that I don't have crohns which would cause more problems with getting me diagnosed.

Hi,

I hope you are feeling better, or somehow getting treated..
I have had Crohn's for years, and for about six months I had diarrhea from a tea that I drank once. Otherwise I suffer from constipation all the time, especially after getting certain medications like Albilify/Rispelda which stopped my diarrhea alongside with the usual Pentasa and Imuran.
I have tried a lot of foods to help me go to the bathroom. What worked for me which gives you flares, was red onions or long green onions. Now I have tried eating oranges every evening as a last meal which helps me go in the morning.
Or what I suggest is freshly brewed coffee, it has to be fresh and hot, with some milk and two spoons of sugar, that gets me to go now a days.
My doctor advised me to drink pure fruit juices and water, at least three liters of fluid a day to have stool and for health. I usually drink two liters of water and one or two of fruit juice.
I also just spoke with a pharmacist and she recommended 'wheat bran' to put into a cereal or juice as it would add more fiber and will help get more stool. I just used some and so far I was able to go, so it worked. Also, she suggested if that does not help try 'metamusil' or 'benefiber' which would add fiber and help go to the toilet.
Good luck dear, best of wishes, I hope you will be relieved soon of your troubles. I know what you are going through.. :/

kisses, aya

Feeling better? Treated? What does that mean? Doctors won't give me anything for the pain or diagnose me. But thank you, I will look into getting those things. Xx

I still suffer constipation, but changing my diet did help in getting me to go to the toilet more than just once in a week or two. Supposedly the medications that I get are a cause of the constipation. I do say eating differently does do a good job, so please do try certain foods to assist you if the doctors won't. A lot of people really are telling me more fiber does get one to go and I have been noticing it does.

yes i suffer from 'sluggish' bowels i've had to take movicol recently which has helped, for a while there it just seemed that they'd given up altogeter. It tends to come in a cycle of 3 days. I was never really bothered by diahrrea except when in a really bad flare 2 yrs ago. I've also had my IV valve removed. it literally is a pain in the butt as it makes you so uncomfortable and bloated!!

i only ever had d but during really a bad flare ups i was admitted to hospital and after an xray they kept trying to give me laxatives because they said they could see i was 'bunged up'...i never really understood it cause at the time i was running to the toilet about 20 times a day.

I am awaiting a colonoscopy and an endoscopy which will hopefully give me a diagnosis.
In regard to pooing, to quote Forest Gump, " You never know what your gonna get" I can have projectile Diarrhea, Constipation or fairly normal. No blood but very often mucus. I am currently having incredibly rectally painful poos where it feels like I am passing a Canadian Redwood but upon inspection, size is normal or smaller. Poo requirement is always heralded by severe stomach cramps. I am only 3 weeks out of hospital after a diverticulitis flare up, where the hard core antibiotics enabled C diff to grab hold and give me a week of the most awful diarrhea. The bacteria is no longer present. I have been confirmed as having Diverticulitis but with the other symptoms, it seems certain I also have either UC or Crohns as well. This sucks.
