Is Crohn's Disease related to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Hey all,

I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease about a year ago. Since then, my GI started me on Humira and i haven't had any issues since last month. I had to go to the ER for excruiating pain in my abdomen. I later found out that i probably just had a transiet blockage. It cleared up on its own. I, since then, haven't been back to normal. My GI upped my humira shots from every 15 days to every 12. I am still in a dull nagging kind of pain. He says that if that hasn't worked then he wants to add a new med along with humira.

But with that all being said, my BIGGEST issue is fatigue. Ever since that "blockage" i have been so EXTREMELY exhausted, to the point that i have little to zero energy early in the afternoon lasting the rest of the night. I feel horrible because it's keeping me from doing things with my kids (i have three), and i've been getting horrible headaches as well. I can't focus on anything. (So i apologize if this post is kinda of all over the place). It's even affecting my online college. My grades are dropping. I get a good 7-8 hours of sleep a night, i wake up and do Insanity workouts 6 days a week. I'm just concerned that something is going to worsen this fatigue and since my husband is deployed to Afghanistan until the end of the year, i have no one out here to help with the kids. I am worried that i am over doing it with working out. I mean i know that working out is excellent for your body, but do you think i'm doing too much? My workouts are a high intensity 40-60 minutes monday through saturday with a rest day on sunday. I wish i could just get my energy back.

Please, if anyone else is experiencing this same thing, or similar, please please help! I need some advice on what i should do to help this fatigue go away!

Also i just recently had my lab work done and my doc didn't mention anyting about my iron being low, so i do not think that is the issue.

Thanks everyone!

Melissa

I would check with your doctor at what tests were done, you really need to take a front seat in your health especially since your husband is away. I know it's hard to find the time but if you get a copy of your blood work and post it on the forum people will tell you what it means. You could be low in any number of things that your doctor most likely didn't test for, B12 would cause the fatigue you are feeling. But for example without doing an iron specific test that shows your binding capacity and storage levels your most recent flare could have dumped your iron which wouldn't show on a normal blood test but would produce symptoms. I would recommend asking for a CT scan to show if you have a blockage, vitamin levels, and Total iron-binding capacity/Transferrin saturation. If all of these are good your exercise is too intense, but you would at least know 100% it's up to you how much it's affecting you. I will say the worst part about having Crohns for me is when my iron is severely low, imagine waking up in the morning standing up and passing out from not getting enough oxygen, thats fatigue! Don't let something get to this point.
