Is this fat in my stool?

Hey guys. I have been pretty good recently. But I did notice something different. On occasion, my stool has these mucus looking globs but I am pretty sure its not mucus. They are whitish or light brown in color, and they are semi-soft (reminds me of a larger smooth raisin). If I squeeze it it will flatten. It is really weird. I do not know what it can be?
I have been maintaining my weight for the past 6 months. No real fluctuations. I have 1-2 BM's a day. Sometimes they are a bit loose, sometimes solid. It varies.
Thanks for the input.

I don't see how it could be fat unless you're eating chunks of fat. :/ I wouldn't rule out mucus and for me, mucus was always a sign of a flare so maybe you could make an appointment with your GI if you can't figure out if it's something you've been eating.

I think the mucusy-stuff would be mucus. I think fat in the stool floats on top of the water, like an oil slick or little oil droplets, it wouldn't come out in globs because your body temperature would keep it liquid.

That's my understanding as well.

Just think of yourself as a tiny BP, and your toilet as a miniature Gulf of Mexico... laugh.gif

Not that that situation is to laugh about :ymad:

Fat definitely does float on top of the water and it does look just like oil - not necessarily BP oil, but more like cooking oil. I used to have fat in my stool fairly frequently before I figured out that I should avoid high-fat foods. For me, it was kind of orangey-yellow in color and would remind me of olive oil floating on top of water in a sauce pan, only darker/more orange in color. I was confused by it at first because I hadn't eaten anything oily, and it took me a little while to figure out that it was fat and not oil.

Mucous can be non-mucous-y looking, if it has remained in the bowel long enough for the water to be absorbed out of it. Like a person who has had a partial ostomy (where there is still bowel left attached to the rectum), the body will still shed mucous off the lining and want to be passed out the rectum, but it won't look "slimy" like mucous normally does... it kind looks like a "normal" bowel movement.

My advise: take a sample to the lab and get them to look at it! When in doubt... have it tested!! lol
