Everyone seems to be from the UK and not understand the no health insurance thing in America and a lot of American federal help etc....

There are a lot of Americans on this board, many of whom are very helpful in assisting people with insurance issues.

I'm from Texas. I have seen many of your posts on here and can hear you are struggling. I am glad you have had so many members responding to you with good suggestions!

Is there anyway that welfare would let me get cash assistance? Seeing that I have no children and I'm not pregnant they have denied me. I contacted charities but they denied me saying they only help organizations and that the deadlines have been over. A lot of help they are :(

Also since I have crohn's if I ever need surgery or more medication since I'm poor and can't spend anything on docs or medicine would they just let me die?
No health insurance and medicaid won't accept me until disability comes which could be months or years which I don't have time for....

I'm from the states! I just dont live there now. I was self employed with NO insurance (Realtor) back in the day. I would actually say, MORE members live in the states than in the UK on this board.

And I remember it well. (not well...as in..couldnt afford medication! or anything else!)

I think the in UK it is exactly the same for care (in theory) but US has different care for each state so guessing it makes it more complicated to give advice out. My guess would be that there is loads more americans on this forum though

Have you tried red cross or st vincent de paul or the salvation army I think they might be of help to you as I know th red cross is more of a medical charity just explain your situation calmly and slowly and I'm sure you can find some help there are also charities run by doctors for people in your situation they offer free medical care not sure how they go with meds though

Have you applied for SSDI? It is specifically for low income people. You might need an attorney to get it, but they won't charge you money up front, instead any payment they get will be out of back benefits, and it is limited by law how much they can make. I'm sorry you are struggling so much.

I applied for disability and somebody from there called me about benefits and I let them fill it out and they said I'd still have to wait a few months to a few years.....

I just wanted to add that I like the way people from the UK speak (and Australians also). I know that is not what this topic is about.

I'm from the Midwest. Sometimes there are free (or very low cost) clinics run by medical residents while they train. My neighbor worked at one while doing his residency as part of his training (family practice doc). I don't know, however, how much a generalist (family practice doc) would know about Crohn's.

I'm from the US also...and please note, you cannot be denied treatment at a hospital because you can't pay.....

Hope you get some assistance soon- I'd be on the internet searching out options as I know they are out there!

I'm from the US also. Pasobuff is right, they cannot deny treatment because you cannot pay.

I'm from Canada,

We pay lots of taxes here but we get "free" medical care.

There are lots of good people here from the Us i'm sure they will be able to help out. If you ned mroe information write back adn let us know. If there is an answer out there we'll find it.

If all else fails, marry a Canadian and move here :)

I'm not moving to Canada I've never really been outside of Canton, Ohio for more than half a day I've been so poor. I hope I get my first vacation somewhere someday. I'm 23 years old too :( Turns out welfare was supposed to send me papers and they were due by dec. 30th but they never sent me papers so now I have to re-apply for cash assistance if I even qualify and pray they accept it! This will take longer now since they'll have to set up a meeting and everything. Ehhh!!!

sometimes the drug company will give you help in paying for medication.
I'm getting help from the Company that makes Aciphex, as I can't afford the $175 copay for 30 tablets.

By the time they pay a portion, I'm only resposible for $20.

I'm in the States too.

I contacted the drug company through the doctor's office they were supposed to send me free bottles in the mail but never have. So for now on I have to keep calling the doctor's office and pray they have samples.....

My medicine Lialda is I think $1,100 for one bottle!!!!! I know yikes! Thank God I got one bottle free from the office if I need to pay for any i'm SOL!

Keep following up, don't feel intimidated. Get out your calendar, and write down the day you apply for something, then keep track of it so you know if you've gotten an answer in a reasonable amount of time.

People want to help, you know, but they have a lot of other people who take up their time, so keep calling, asking, so you stay on their mind. Make them want to help.

I've kept every medical paper from 23 hospital/clinic/and doc visits and have kept every date and paper of everything I've been going through :)

I know that it sounds unfair, but you also have to learn to be nice at the same time as being pushy - gets you much further! An occasional breakdown into tears doesn't hurt, though.

I think this board has some good representation from the countries of: The United States, Great Britain, and Canada. There are many other countries, but those seem to be the most heavily represented.

I'm Alaska, which would make me an American. Many of my mother's relatives are from Norway though.

There are also members here from Argentina, Portugal, Norway, The Philippines, Greece, Cyprus (me), South Africa, Armenia, France, Finland, Kenya, Pakistan, Germany, Slovenia, United Arab Emirates, Malta, New Zealand and many other countries........

And obviously only English proficient people are on here. I tried to add myself onto the map, but was unsuccessful. Maybe I'll try again.
