Is this something to mention to my ibd nurse?

Hey guys,

I've been on remi since May this year and my last infusion was just over 2 weeks ago. I don't know if I should be mentioning this to my ibd nurse or if it is common to still get some symptoms whilst on remi. Basically I've had blood in mucous each time I've been to the loo today, not major blood just ribbons inside mucous. I've also been having mainly dull pains all over my tummy and sometimes stabby pains mainly in the lrq and on Sunday I had horrible pains for aboot an hour and a half (almost getting to the stage that I felt as if my tummy was gonna be ripped apart) and then I threw up for aboot 15 mins and the pain died down. I'm currently under the weather with a chesty cough/poss infection (I can hear the phlegm rattling in my chest but it takes an awful lot of coughing to shift even the tiniest of pieces!) so maybe it's because of that.

So yeah, sorry for the rambling post, what I'm actually trying to ask is if anyone has had blood in mucous whilst on remi, and if so did you speak to your gi/nurse aboot it or is it something you just ignore?
I hate to bother drs if I don't have to, I don't want to take up their time if it's nothing to be concerned aboot.

Hi Siobhan, oh dear that sounds nasty. Definitely mention it IMO. Because tbh that sounds like you've had a short episode of obstruction that the vomiting eased the pressure off, but if you have a narrowing it will happen again. Please mention it because you need to play safe with anything like this.

Soybean! I would definately mention it! Could be one of two things as Grant says an obstruction or a virus (intestinal bug) I had the exact same thing but my pain was on the left so I was worry, was admitted and had a sigmoid which he intially thought was Colitis...but turned out to be a bug. Also my Potassium was very low and had IV of that and antibiotics...isnt this a fun disease! NOT. Dont let it go ok. Infections are a no no with Remi. Let us know what you do and the results.

With pains, blood and vomiting, I'd be inclined to call them 1st thing in the morning, maybe book an emergency appointment with your GP who may in turn send you to your local hospital (I don't mean to get you panicking) but what with pain, blood and mucous id sort it ASAP hun!

Do keep us posted and fingers crossed its just a bug (there are a lot going round the uk at the moment).

Take care!:thumright:

Thanks for the advice guys,
I called my ibd nurses and left a msg but they didn't get back to me, so I guess they'll call me on Monday. I think I'm just gonna sleep all wknd (which isn't anything out of the ordinary for me atm anyway lol) and see if I feel any better by Monday. I've had dull pain again today and mucous, but no blood, so hopefully it was just a passing thing.

Glad you called the doc - hopefully you feel better this weekend!...let us know how you make out.....

Hi Siobhan sorry to hear you're not feeling well. What you're feeling could be many things and would suggest you get to your GP as soon as poosible. In Ireland we have IBD Nurses who generally get back to you within 48hours (mine is usually the same day, lucky me, she is amazing). One thing I would mention to you as a fellow Infliximab patient, is that since I began receiving the meds in April I haven't had mucus and certainly not any blood. Defo something to highlight, the fact you are unwell with a chesty type of infection is prob contributing to it, make sure to mention if you are on antibiotics, cos I know they send me over the edge!!! Hope you feel better soon xx

So my nurse finally got hold of me yesterday lunchtime (she called my mobile Mon afternoon when I was in work and I missed her call, so I called her back Tues and kept my phone on me but no phonecall, then Weds lunchtime she called again and we finally got to speak lol)
I explained everything and she said to keep an eye on it and if I get more pain/blood to call her, and if my cough carries on for more than a week to go to my gp for antibiotics (although I think it's getting much better now). I've had more pain since but only really low level pain and occasional pains that make me gasp, mainly in my llq really low down (aboot an inch below my hip bone and in a bit) and in my lrq slightly higher up (just around my hip bone). My stupid fistula is starting to play up, I'm not certain, but I think its starting to leak when I have d. This evening I though it had leaked so after cleaning myself up I gave it a gentle squeeze and pinky puss came out and then I gently squeezed it again and blood came out so I'll keep an eye on all of this and if it gets worse I'll contact her again.
Thanks for your advise guys, I think if it hadn't been for you guys saying to ring I probly would have thought I was over reacting and just ignored it.
