Well hello everyone my name is Taylor Austin, I am 19 years old and was diagnosed two years ago at the age of 17. I started off with being diagnosed with IBS, but no medicines worked and i progressively got much worse and worse. I then had my first colonoscopy and nothing was found so they just kind of ignored me and let me be. Three months later i was admitted into the hospital with 3 ulcers, 2 fissures and the entire colon including 10 inches of the small intestine inflamed. I was then diagnosed with Crohns. I have been through all the medications and now am on Pentasa and Humira(shot form of remicade i believe). Now i know other people have it much worse then i do, and i am very sorry for them!!
My only problem is that it has been around 4-5 months of remission(which was amazing to say none the less!!). but now even being on medicines and such my "issues" are coming up. Every time i pass a bowel movement it is just the same way as it use to be. As if im trying to go through a tiny straw(which is very very painful). It is now blood contained and very watery. Also there was a period of time 2-3 weeks ago where i wouldnt go for 7 days at a time and when i would go, i do believe i was having a baby out of my anus(not really having a baby just the pain felt like it). I really do not want to go back to going to the hospital every weekend to get morphine to calm down the symptoms and then just keep going back.
So my question is should i be really worried or is it just a flare up that will go away? I have had surgery around the anal sphincter, could this be causing the pain? also would i maybe having to look at surgery? thanks guys !!

Hello Taylor and welcome to the forum. Have you been onto your GI about the problems you are now having? If not pls get onto them as soon as you can. It is most probably worth having at least some bloods done to see if there is any inflammation going on. It could just be that the Humira dose needs to be ammended or an extra med needs to be added perhaps to replace the pentesa which is a fairly mild drug.

I do hope that things improve for you soon hun and keep us updated on how you are doing.

Hi Taylor and welcome!

You went from clear colonoscopy to that in 3 months!? That's crazy and the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if they screwed up that initial colonoscopy. :)

Humira isn't quite the same thing as Remicade. They are both biologics but they're definitely different medications. We do have a Humira forum if you want to read up on it a little more.

Your symptoms at present have me a little concerned about the possibility you've formed a stricture. When was the last time you were evaluated by your GI? Have you mentioned these new symptoms to him or her?

Again, welcome! We're here for you any time you need us.

Sorry for such a late reply a lot has happened!! I have had 2 more surgeries, the last i had a fissurectomy(spelled wrong) and it said i had hemorrhoids removed. but after the surgery i had some major external hemorrhoids which i have never had. also about a week before the surgery i have started experiencing some new symptoms. I cannot fully excrete my bowels. At least this is what i believe. I use to go very many times a day as i do now but i would have to flush the toilet in worry of over flowing it in a BM. Now i am having very painful stomach cramps as if a clamp were squeezing my intestines. i do not really know what is wrong but i cant lay down, sit up, or stand up for that matter without feeling my stomach pains then having to go to the bathroom, i think this may be a bad flare up but not sure also, the hemorrhoids i think i may have to get surgery on because they are only getting larger and more painful, is there anything i should try(i have tried cream, wipes, and many other things). thanks for the response guys =)

Wow Taylor.A you have been going through a rough patch latly havent you. I am sorry that you have been battling with so much. I fo not know what else to add for the hemmies that you have not already tried other than getting in touch with your GI for a suggestion. Have you talked to them about the pain that you are having since your surgery?

I hope you find relief soon.

Hi, Taylor!

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. What has your GI said about this?

In the meantime, here's a couple threads I've found discussing hemorrhoids. If these don't answer your questions, feel free to post your own thread in the General IBD Discussion forum.

Well my GI doctor had me do blood work and said my inflammatory factors were up, but she did not tell me if this would cause the stomach pains or not or if that would cause me to have to weird bowel movement patterns. Thank you for the help on the hemorrhoids, i will probably ask my rectal surgeon about those as i see him tomorrow, i just did not want surgery after having 2 in the past 2 months haha. Thanks for all the responses guys =) its very helpful

Wow! I am sorry to hear about everything you are going through. I think it would be a good idea to discuss your pain with your GI more thoroughly, maybe more scopes? there might be something else going on that needs to be addressed. Let us know how your appointment with the surgeon goes tomorrow, I hope you can get some relief from the hemorrhoids.
Good luck tomorrow!

Taylor, I'm a little concerned about the fact that your GI didn't discuss the issues you're having beyond saying your tests show inflammation markers. Did he/she discuss any changes in your treatment, any measures you should take, anything?

The thing about surgeons is that they will usually think surgery is the answer. When all you have is a hammer, and all that.

Have you ever been to a second GI for a fresh perspective on your issues and your treatments? Are you still on Humira? Have you tried any diet changes along with your meds? Diet is pretty important with Crohn's, sorry if I missed you mentioning it...?
