I've finally been offered the B12 and iron injections

Seen my specialist today, and they have finally refered me to have the B12 and Iron injections. I have fought for years to get these. I am over the moon with this, and hope this will help pick me up from the extreme exhaustion I've been suffering for years. Does anyone else have these injections??

Hi,

I have been having the B12 injections for many years, but only remember have the iron jabs vaguely.

The B12 are great, can be a bit uncomfortable but I feel great after, a real energy boost.
Iron jabs are quite sore as well, but you get used to it, and the benefits definitely outweigh the pain.
Good luck with them, hopefully they will give you a boost as well x

Heyya. I have heard that they are not pleasant, but very much worth it in the end.I cannot remember the last time I had energy. Just hope that they do not take ages to send the appointments out. Xx

It shouldn't take long - I get mine done every 3 months at my GP surgery. The practice nurse does them, and I feel the boost within the hour. When i'm due a *** I definitely can feel my energy levels go down, I have to go back to taking my Nanas hour on the sofa everyday!!
I also take Vit D prescribed by Doctor as well, and that takes care of aching joints and bones

I get iron shots weekly.....but i am getting them for restless leg syndrome. The iron does stain the skin and it looks awful. But the benefits of it are definately worth it.

I'm glad to here its a positive thing then. I've been told I have to go to the hospital for a day to have the iron, but will have the B12 at my GP surgery. Bring it on I say.

I get restless leg syndrome a few days before my period so do u think the iron will help with that. What do u mean stains the skin? Xx

Hi All!

I have been getting B12 shots for over 20 years. They're great. I have iron (Venofer) infusions every week because my iron is so low and my RBC is bad too. With the iron infusions I was having reactions; severe flu like symptoms that lasted for 24-48 hours. Yesterday I was pre-medicated with Solu-Medrol and Benadryl before my infusion and that made a huge difference. I was back to work right after the infusion for the first time in weeks!

That sounds positive, and I'm looking forward to the difference it is gonna make to my life. Ill b having the iron throu a drip at the hospital. Is that how they do it? My GP will be giving me the B12. Do u feel like u have more energy with the injections?

I had both, I only have B12 now. If you're tired you will feel much better.

The iron is done through a drip IV. The B12 is just a shot, either in your bum or shoulder. It doesn't hurt, the needle just stings a tiny bit like any needle does, that's it, a B12 shot takes literally 10 seconds.

I am constantley tired. Feel like I never have a full nights sleep, when I do sleep about 8 hours a night. I'm looking forward to having some energy at long last

I believe it depends on your ferritin levels. If you have restless legs your ferritin needs to be 100. A person without rls is ok around 20. But.....it cant hurt to get it. I get iron injections weekly at my doctors office because my levels are so low. The color is dark brown/blackish and it actually stains your skin......but I get the shots in my butt.

B12 is a good thing, but it's a short lived perk if you're constantly low. I had mine yesterday and I was actually up until 11:30 p.m. and I haven't stayed upright that late in ages.

Iron has been very slow progress for me. I had to have a blood transfusion in October because my count was at 6.2. I was feeling good for a while, but then my counts started dropping again. Now I'm getting the iron weekly, but my counts go up and down. My doctor says that my blood counts are better and I should start feeling better soon.

Once I get the iron and B12 up, I have to get to work on my magnesium again. That's been a battle for years, my count doesn't like to be above 1.6 no matter how many IVs I get. Arrrrrrggggghhhhh

Iron infusions are definitely the way to go. Iron supplements are very very hard on the stomach and absorption is limited, as IMO. B12 injections great ideas, as well. I think you will feel much better. Good luck.
