Hi everybody,

need a bit of advice, as you can see from my signature, thats all the meds im on, im due my 2nd infusion of infliximab on friday. but my jaw has started really hurting at one side, like lock jaw, its been like it since last night.

is this a side effect of any of my meds do you think? or am i just being a hypocondriac again?

any advice welcome

CS, Beth has been having jaw pain and lock-jaw for a while now. She posted it on another thread. She may have a good take on it.

I once got a bad case of lockjaw or something similar to it. One dose of soma(a muscle relaxant) fixed me right up. If the pain is bad see your doctor or dentist and ask about that. It works as a pain killer also and will knock you out for a few hours, so you might ask for a small prescription of like 3-5 to be safe and see if that helps with the pain. I know for me for a week I was on the max dose of tylenol and barely getting relief before my dentist decided to try the soma.

I started getting jaw pain, and I attribute it to the prednisone I'm on. So perhaps your steroid is causing it?

I have jaw problems too, pain underneath the left hand side and just below my ear on the joint. I got a jaw splint made by my dentist after it was suggested it might help and it has.

I'm really not sure what it is a side effect of, when I was on pred I didn't notice it worsening but since I've come off a lot of meds it's actually more painful.

I had jaw pain when my Crohn's was bad, it would worsen with my other symptoms. It would start at my lower jaw and radiate down my neck, to my armpit and into my elbow on a bad day. I went to dentists and doctors and none of them offered up any ideas as to what it could be. I have thankfully been without that pain since my surgery in '07.

Do you have any other jaw pain Crohns sufferer? Cause a lot of crohnies get joint pain and this is a joint many of us use a lot . I have had jaw joint pain since they messed up my jaw with wisdom tooth removal AND i bite my cheeks (bad nervous habit) which makes it worse.

But today my joints (hip, hands, knees, ankles) ache a bit more than usual and my jaw hurts more than usual also, so could be related.

got severe jaw pain the day after my first (and only) humira injection. My doc suggested holding off just in case there was a relation between it. It eventually went away but took about a month.

I too get a lot of jaw pain! It sometimes feels like my teeth have actually "shifted." Sometimes the pain will cause my ears & neck to hurt. I usually just take some pain med & that seems to help.

Yup, jaw pain is part of my Crohn's related arthritis. GP gave me some tramadol yesterday as having to stop azathioprine it's come back with some vengence. Actually he gave me two sorts: a 50mg ordinary tab. And a 100mg slow release. It works rather well, if a little odd. In that it doesn't seem to take the pain away completely, but makes it seem a long way off. It's recommended to take it with paracetamol - tylenol as it works together in some way. Haven't tried that yet but might with the shorter acting tabs when I don't particularly want/need the 'away with the fairies' effect.

If your jaw pain is related directly (IYKWIM) and aren't on something like aza - imuran, then perhaps you should be asking your GI about it.

i did a while ago and it lasted for a week or so. i started to think it was a tooth or something but it went way and the dentist said my teeth were good. it was strange.

Same here, I got my dentist to check my teeth for anything untoward but they were fine.

A word of warning to about Tramadol tho. It's great for pain relief, but oh boy did it bung me up... My GP should have told me to buy some lactulose to go with it.
