Job loss due to hospitalization

I'm about to lose my job due to a hospital stay. 1st one in 12 yrs and been working 7 days a week for the guy for the last 5 yrs. I've had a total of 5 days off since oct. until the over night cause of pancreatitis. surely there are laws to protect against this but its a very small operation. anyone have any thoughts?
