Just had an Ileo resection re-do 2 weeks today, got out of hospital last Monday,7 days ago,to be honest I am getting that many wind pains where they did my op it's making me feel awful,I walk about get tired, sit down, and hen I am wracked with bad wind pains, when I do pass wind, and believe me it's lots of it ,it's really painful, takes my breath away a bit,it's putting me off eating to be honest.
As this. Been the norm for anyone who as had a bowel resection in the first few weeks, maybe I am thinking I should not be experiencing this ,I don't know, cannot remember it being this bad before.
Can someone please put my mine at rest, I know it's really early days, but the paracetamol they gave me to come home with,is really not enough,I cannot turn over in bed, lie down properly, without suffering sheer discomfort.
I really wished now, I never went through this,my Gastro thought it would be an idea to get rid of the small amount of structuring I had at the ileum,I did not realise they would leave me with 140 cm of small bowel,my surgeon as not even told me this,it was written on my discharge paper, and yet he came to see me everyday!!!!!
I probably could of held on at least another two years, especially as I was on Aza and it was working fine.
I,m probably feeling like this cos of the pain and discomfort i am in,it just feels like this is going to take months to get over properly
Cold someone please advise or give me an example of how they felt please, may put my mind at rest.:(:(:(

It's still really raw and you are fresh out of surgery. Unfortunately these pains and the level of fatigue are normal. I'd be concerned if you have distended belly, infection at the scar, fevers or vomiting.

Its always good to call the surgeon and let them know and maybe they can prescribe stronger pain meds. I hope you feel better soon!

Hello, big giant gentle hugs. This sounds so familiar to me. The pain of the guts not moving as fast as some others - (the wind) very very painful takes your breath away type, sharp and deep. All I can remember doing was walking, walking and more walking in the house once home.
Another thing that might help is to be sure to not have any carbonated drinks or anything that could cause wind. High carbohydrates especially sugar can cause more wind too. Don't drink through a straw as crazy as it sounds.
I also found that sitting straight up put pressure on the guts and caused pain trapping wind. Others that have not experienced this must think how could simple gas be so painful, it is!
Remember to support your incision area with a pillow when you get up and down. When you do lay down try to put a pillow by your side for support and lay towards that side, then tne other alternating, it might help the guts move the wind along. Try to stand as straight as you can when you do walk, it should get easier each passing day. Its still early. It takes time to heal.

Be sure to call your Dr. and give them a update. Don't try to tough it out alone.
I don't know if any of this helps at all,
I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks NoGuts, I really think its the trapped wind that's causing the problem, have just spoken to a relation, whose sister has had cancer surgery of the bowel and stomach, she said the hospital gave her Peppermint Water which was brilliant, but unfortunately she can only get through hospital as chemists do not sell it,only peppermint cordial, am going to send hubby out tomorrow to get peppermint infusions from Holland and Barratt and see if they help,As regards to pain relief, there is only really paracetamol I can take, allergic to codeine and had really bad reaction to tramadol in hospital,so they decided not to go that route again, Am going to use one of those warm pads you put on your back normally when I go to bed soon some more paracetamol and peppermint capsules and see how I get on.
Oh the joys of surgery,it's right what they say , the older you get, the worse it becomes.
Thanks for your reply.

If*you have my pain down to a tea, that is exactly how I am feeling,am walking up and down, most of the day,it seems not to bad first thing in the morning, but the wind builds up during the day, don't have carbonated drinks ever, but I do have sugar in my tea, will cut this out,see what happens.am trying to do little things like wash up a little,(whilst on my feet)Little jobs never been so hard!!!!!!!.Scar healed up lovely, but I suppose it's what's still going on underneath.Everything feels so raw and painful.Sleep even a straight 3-4 hours would be good, but is not happening.Just want to fast forward 3-4 weeks now so I can get some sort of relief.Took peppermint capsule before bed last night, that helped a little, may take some more today,to see if I can get on top of these wind pains.
Thanks very much

It's weird, I wish I could remember if it was OK to take GasX -(simethicone) or a similar medication. Can you ask your Dr. if it would be helpful and OK to do. It dawned on me last night, when I was thinking of how horrid that pain was. So sharp and would make me wonder has something gone horribly wrong but to only hear 'it's just wind' for crying out loud - just LOL.
Hope you can get some answers and much needed rest!
