My doctor started me on 30 mg/day for the next few days and then I'm to call him on Friday to discuss different dosages. My joints were killing me this morning, I could hardly get out of bed. In fact I stayed in bed until 11:30 a.m. mostly feeling sorry for myself. My shoulder, wrists, elbows, and most of all my chest were so painful! I actually went to see my wonderful chiropractor yesterday evening to see if that would help. It helped for like ten minutes. But, it was still enjoyable to see her and she was quite knowledgeable about ulcerative colitis and crohns.

I spoke to my G.I. Doctor this afternoon and he decided it was time to get me started on prednisone. I have been in a ulcerative colitis flare for a few months now and have been treating it with asacol. I have had ups and downs but just couldn't seem to get better. Did I mention I just got a seton placed on Monday for a anal-rectal fistula? Yes, it has been just lovely!

So anyhow, I started the prednisone and already feel a ton better! My aches and pains in my wrists, elbows and shoulders have all but disappeared. My chest is even relieved and I can take in a full breath of air without pain. It's great. I'm just surprised that it is starting to work so quickly. My mom also suffers from autoimmune diseases (iritis and rheumatoid arthritis - both currently in remission) and she said that steroids often worked quickly for her in the past as well.

So far, I love prednisone. Ask me again how I feel about it in a week ;)

Wow! That is just fantastic! When Prednisone works, it works well! Unfortunately, it didn't work for me :frown: . My most recent stint on it was 40mg/day and it actually caused me to have such severe joint pain in my legs that I would wake up in the middle of the night crying in pain. As soon as we reduced the dose, the pain subsided so we know that it was the steroids and not the Crohn's. But I am so happy to hear that you are having such immediate relief - Woohoo!!!! :mario2:

Thanks Patty. I've heard of people having trouble with it so I really put it off as a last resort. But so far so good. It's crazy that it actually gave you joint pain, yikes. Isn't this such a wonderful disease we get to deal with?
