Well i cant say i have any experience taking the pill, LOL, but when my crohns was active i always got pain (i wouldnt call it a burning sensation though) in that area, i will assume that is because thats where the top of the colon is located and thats where my crohns was most active. I never took painkillers at all though, i am not experienced with that either...the pain only existed when my disease was active, once the Pred got it under control within 2 weeks it felt fine and the severe cramps disappeared

Is it related to what you eat or when you eat in some way? Best thing is to talk to the Dr. It could be heartburn / acid reflux, or that is the area of the gallbladder and pancreas. It's probably a bit of acid reflux, but I owuld call in.

Hi

I am experiencing the same thing, perhaps and was wondering if you have learned any more about what is going on with you.

My symptoms started below my ribs on my right side. Just kind of a pulsing pain. Now I have lower right side pain but mostly I have a feeling like when I'm having my period or (more accurately) like when I had an ovarian cyst rupture. I have a duller version on my left side, also about where I think my ovary is.

The most pain I have, though, radiates into my back, right buttock and sometimes down my leg like sciatica.

It does not seem like it could actually be sciatica, though, because it comes on in the same patterns as the abdominal pain. I figure it's referred pain.

I am a bit vague on exactly where this pain is located. Below the diaphragm is a big area. Upper right? Upper left? In the middle?

Yeah, commenting on this is pretty problematic... location of the pain is way too vague... frinstance, women and men have different locale of the diaphragm... it's a bit higher in women to allow for reproductive organs.. (at least that's what I've heard
or vaguely recall from the days when I was bombarded with medical text presents).. Generally... very generally, and I'm not an expert, authority or even knowledgeable in this area... a burning sensation in the rib area around the diaphragm sounds like acid reflux or esopgheal (sp?) hernia.. it should be related to diet/eating routine.. A buddy of mine from back home had a hernia in this area and he had to watch what he ate/drank to control it. see a doc about this ASAP!

As for period pain... being a male, I can't comment. I tried to determine if crohns pains were similar to period pain, and the feedback was to mixed to make that a useful analogy. so, us guys are totally in the dark when women speak of 'period' pain. Your pred level seems very mild.. almost like a low maintenance dose to me.
However, that's a wild assed guess on my part.. I used to take 4 - 6 times that, but i'm a male, 6' 3" and 240 lbs... u could be 5' and change and less than 1/2 - 1/3 my weight.. and your symptoms may be at a stage where your doc prefers to take a more modest/moderate approach to pred due to possible side effects. The codiene isn't something I'm familiar with.. I used to take tylenol 3 w codiene, but the codiene interfered with my bm's... so I have since cut it out almost totally. the ant-acid... makes me think that acid reflux/ hernia potential pre-existed to a degree... which brings me back to my initial advice.. go see your doctor ASAP, OK?

Yes, my symptoms are like this. I've only recently been diagnosed, and have found that with a combination of pariet, flagyl, salofalk and prednisone the pain is a lot better.

For me the burning pain comes and goes according to what I eat. So far I've discovered that I can't have dairy and red meat as they cause the burning pain. It also seems better with white bread and soup.

The period type pain I get still get every now and again. It was there constantly when I was first diagnosed and had nothing to do with my period, but the flagyl sorted it out.

HTH.
