Has anyone noticed any interaction between the birth control Lutera and prednisone or colazal (balsalazide disodium)?

I have been off Lutera for a while, but would like to get back on as I am both irregular and usually have very painful cramps with my periods.

Also, less Crohn's related but does it matter when you start taking the birth control, as in, does it have to be taken right after one's period?

Hi! I have never taken Lutera, however I would be careful with any BC that contains estrogen. Woman with CD tend to have an issue with estrogen. I tried a few years ago and ended up with erythema nodosum. I was told that if I wanted to stay on a BC pill that I would have to use a mini-pill (one that only has progestin) as the estrogen does not interact well with CD. I was on Depo for years and never had any major issues and loved that I basically never had a period. I've been off now for over a year (went off when I got married) since it can take a while for it to be completely out of your system. I would talk to your GI and OB/GYN.

You do have to start BC during a certain point in your cycle. Since it's been a while since I started a BC I don't recall exactly when that is, but your doc could also answer that question.

Good luck! :)

I'm currently on Lutera. I was just diagnosed CD last week (after a REALLY interesting week...) and the GI said I need to get off of it at the end of this cycle. :c
