Well, now that Oprah mentioned it - the world will believe!
She had Dr Oz. on this week, and he was talking about ways to live longer. One of the things that he mentioned was Mangosteen juice. I've seen it being talked about a few times on here, so now that Oprah mentioned it (and some people follow Oprah more than they do the bible) I wonder how much more popular it will become?

I'm not a big Oprah fan.... my grandma calls her O-frah. And its just because she really thinks that's her name. It's quite funny. But I think O-frah is a big cult. "Go buy this book, it has my book club's sticker on it, it's such a good book". And then the huge droves of lambs follow and buy her books. I dunno, O-frah is overrated.

Yeah, remember the one book she talked about "A Million Tiny Pieces" or something. Even had the author on and everything...he turned out to be a fake! Ha, Ha.

I despise the woman, she once said a few things that were far behind feminism, and into anti-male territories. I've loathed her since and think she's a sham, although I find it decent of her to give some of her trillions away to the needy.

Well, it seems that folks treat celebrities one of two ways... either deify them or demonize them.. When, in reality, they are no different than any of us.. Just folks with good points and bad... certainly far from flawless. I neither defend nor attack her.. I think that she's a single black woman that made good based on hard work, intelligence, preparation, and luck. That earns kudos in my book... The fact that she can be taken in by the odd shamster or that she's feminist biased... Those aren't what I'd call 'failings', just human traits. So, pro or con, don't throw the 'juice' out with the Oprah. We had a long standing member on here.. Cara Fusinato.. (hope I spelled it right) who swore by Mangosteen juice. and to her, the cost of it beat the cost/risk of any of the traditional meds. She hasn't been around in a while, I hope the juice is still working for her. Now, whether it worked for her cause it works, or because she believed it would work... does that really matter as long as it works. If this past year for me has been placebo effect from LDN, for pitys sake don't burst my bubble. There are some things we are better off not knowing...

pen i don't know about capsules, and also the local pharmacy part makes me wonder. i would just buy it in juice form from a health food store. as a liquid it will absorb quicker and better. plus it would prob be more legit, possibly organic, and more potent.

I have to disagree. I was "prescribed" or rather instructed to take cranberry pills. All the benefits of cranberry juice without the juice. The pills worked far better than the juice ever did. This is not a coincidence either. It is the exact reason why urologists instruct patients to use the pill form and not the juice. So just because it is in pill form it doesn't automatically mean it won't work as well. In fact you can get a lot more "packed" into a pill than you can pack into your stomach.

/will leave it at that

I don't think O actually said anything about it, Hippie, it was just on her show. Dr. Oz is the one who recommended everything for the set-up. They were moving quickly down a table of stuff, and that was one of the items.
I looked on her website that day, but couldn't find anything.

I wsn't saying that mangosteen does or doesn't work either - I was just saying that it seems like things from Oprah's show suddenly become popular.

The brand name that Cara Fusinato (a poster that hasn't been around for a while) uses is Xango brand.
I'll be interested in hearing how the capsules work, Pen.

Confession - I kinda like Ope. I rarely watch her, but if she was on during primetime I probably would. I love her attitude. A little stuck up. Like me.

Well, I did it.
I ordered a $40 bottle of mangosteen juice. The one that Cara uses.
Not because it was on Oprah, but because I'm getting sick of crapping my pants, and figure I'll try anything but those worms right about now. It's supposed to help with intestinal inflammation, so it's worth a shot I guess.

The big question - when should I take it??
If I take it on an empty stomach, it will get everywhere it should get, but I'm afraid it might go through too fast.
If I take it right after breakfast, I'm afraid it might get watered down and not have the full effect.
Any suggestions for when to take it? It's a 1 oz. oral dose.

Where can I buy mangoustine juice? I found an Asian store where I can buy fresh mangoustines (at a reasonable price too), and in small quantities it seems that I can eat them with little difficulty. However, I think that juice might be less risky.

Yanick,

I ordered it online. The brand I got was Xango. Google it, it'll be easy to find. They also list distributers in your local area that you can email to save shipping.
There are a few other popular brands too. Some are made with more (other) fruit juice than others.
I think the juice is more beneficial to you than the whole fruit. The good properties are in the rind which is used in making the juice. You'd never eat the rind whole from a fresh fruit.

I also read about the digestive system benefits of the Mangoustie rind. I dried the rind after eating the fruit (which is low in fiber and utterly delicious) and then I put it through a course grinder. Then, I used it to steep in hot water like tea, and you get a pretty good tasting beverage (with a little honey), which is also supposed to help the digestive system and reduce inflammation. The problem is that these fruits are only available fresh a few months of the year (in N. America), so now that the season is over, I don't have any more and may need to look into getting some juice instead.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions on where to get it.

I recently became a XanGo independent distributor because my best friend has found it helps control his big flareups.

I have heard so many other great things regarding XanGo too.

Can anyone here who has tried it please post their personal experience good OR bad OR nuetral. If it was any other mangosteen product, please clarify. Thanks.

Keep in mind that the powerful antioxidants in Mangosteen fruit are called Xanthones. They are very concentrated in the pericarp as mentioned.

Well, it was over a month ago that I tried the mangosteen juice. It tastes okay, no problem getting it down. My memory is CRAP though, so I'm not sure of the rest. I can't even remember what time of day I tried it, but I got a really bad belly ache and cramps that night (usually don't have pain). I blamed the mangosteen, but was going to try it again a few days later. I never tried it again, and now I have a stupid $40 bottle of juice in my fridge that has probably gone bad by now.
Crap.
