Hey guys for the past 4 days I've been experiencing a pain I've never had before. It's a really sharp stabbing pain right in my right side. I know this is where my active crohn's is, its always really tender there anyway but I've never had this kind of pain. My husband was recently in hospital getting his appendix out and now I'm freaking out its my appendix. I'm not vomiting. I'm sweating and have had a bit of a temp. But I do have a cold\sore throat right now and the pred makes sweat at the best of time so I dunno. Really don't want to be a pest seems like I never give my doctor peace :p any ideas? Is this “normal”? Thanks xxx

Pain can be a warning sign that something is wrong in the body.It is not normal.
With your history, and the fact that you are taking pred, plus you have a fever it might be advisable for you to check in with your doc. That is his job to determine the course of action.
At times we all feel that we pester our docs, but really that is their job,and a good doctor will want you to check in with worrying symptoms.
Hugs and best wishes

My sharp, stabbing pain in my right side was, unfortunately, an obstruction and I had to have surgery (this may not be the case for you). Whilst having a Hemicolectomy, the surgeon removed my appendix at the same time (although it was perfectly healthy)... In a way, I'm glad he removed my appendix - its (appendicitis) immediately ruled out for any further right-sided pains.
Hope your pains subside soon :)

Sharp pain can be normal and it can also be a serious sign of something happening. That is the tough thing about this disease I think, you never can really tell if you should be worried or not until things get super bad because we all experience pain on a daily basis. If it is a pain you've never had before though, that could be an indication that something has changed. Keep an eye on your BMs and if you notice that they are changing significantly that can also be a sign that something is going on. I think it would be a good idea for you to make a call to your Doc though. I think we all feel like a pest sometime or other but IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. We can't change our conditions, and in the end you don't want to get very ill just because you were afraid of inconveniencing someone by making them do their job.
Wishing you all the best,
Fabs

Hi Kayleigh,

I get stabbing in the same place to as that's where my Crohns is but I also had the same thing when my appendix went bad.

I think a good test (or so I'm told!) for appendix problems, is when you press on the area, it shouldn't hut when you press it but will hurt when you release it if that makes sense.

Might be best to go to the doc just to be on the safe side :) x

Thanks very much everyone for all your advice. I'm gonna call the docs!! All the best coping with this horrible disease xxx

Artificial- as my disease is in the terminal ileum (very close to the appendix!) in a flare I tested positive for appendicitis with that test. So it may not be useful for distinguishing between a Crohn's flare and appendicitis.

Hey went to the docs today. I have a kidney infection. So that's my mind at ease a bit. 10 days of antibiotics but as I'm getting my consultation to start infliximab on the 24th this is gonna mess it up isn't cos I'll not be able to get infliximab with an infection? The saga continues!!! X
