I had my menstral cycle for 11 days this time. I normally have it for 3-5 days. The bleeding was very heavy this time. Did lots of wash. Sigh.... I'm tired!

I take thyroid meds for hypothyroidism as well as blood thinners. My dosage of blood thinner was lowered before the menstral cycle so I don't think that it is affecting the heavy bleeding. Is this possibly the beginning of menapause or a sign that my other gyn issues have changed? I'm not having any hot flashes or anything. Could the concussion have messed up my cycle?

I put a call into my gyno and am waiting to hear back. Also notified my primary doc.

Hi Naturelover i don't have any advice unfortunately and i hope you have heard back from the gyno doctor. I have been the same this month i am on a contractive pill and am not due my period until the end of this month but i started bleeding at the start of the month for 12 days, i was in complete agony and it totally flared my crohns up. My gp was not avaialbe so i went to see another doctor, she couldn't give me any answers tho put me for a pap smear last week but they had to stop as it was too painful so i am going back on the 18th of january to try again.

I hope you get some answers as it's not normal to bleed that long.

I too hope that you've heard back from a doctor. But, one thing I can say is that when I was younger I would have my periods for about 8 days at a time. Although, mine were also irregular and I didn't have a normal cycle. Now that I'm older (and have been on birth control at one point) they usually last about 5 days.

That sounds awful. :( I just had one for about the same length, but as I just came off my birth control, I figure it's something to do with that.

Please let us know what your doctor says!

I talked with my gyn and she said to monitor the warfarin (blood thinner) very closely and that because of having the blood clots, she cannot put me on hormones. She also said that about all I can do is wait to be cleared by the neurologist to have the surgery to remove the uterus. I'm not having any signs or symptoms of being in menopause.

Sigh.... I'm just tired and exhausted. I guess even mild anemia can do that to a person.

I am on blood thinners (have a clotting disorder) and my cycles were very heavy until my lmp on 12/23/11 and then I had no more periods even in April of this year so I asked my hematologist to check my hormone levels as I was having monthly cycles from every 20 to 59+ days, night sweats, mood swings. She called me on my birthday to say that my tests showed that I am in full blown menopause.

All I can offer is get extra thick pads for those heavy, clotty days, heating pad, and something for pain. See if you are a candidate for an endometrial ablation if your periods are so heavy that you are changing your pads every hour.
