I've been looking into applying for MMJ soon but in addition to my Crohn's, I have major sleep problems and was wondering what strains would be best to help me fall asleep. I'm assuming they're high CBD and low THC strains?

If anyone has any recommendations or experiences that would be awesome.

For sleep you want an indica strain that is as high in THC as possible and as low on CBD as possible.

Something like White Widow or White Russian.

Yup like FrancisK said, you need Indica strain!

Any OG kush will work, I have try Platinum bubba kush, that put into sleep asap!

It most definitely will, but you will build tolerance over time.

What delivery system are you planning to use?

Vaporizer. I've been using a Puffit up until now (from my SO) and just ordered a Pax for myself (which should hopefully be delivered by the end of the day).

Also, I've been on sleeping pills to treat this otherwise, and considering the stronger stuff gets into mood stabilizers that happen to knock you out and antipsychotic territory... (and I build up resistance ridiculously fast to these things) I would rather take the chance with MMJ.

You can get Melatonin capsules in natural supplement stores or pharmacies. Combined with a potent indica strain, it will knock you off your ass in no time. Insomnia? What insomnia?

Oooh, tempting. I've never tried Melatonin so if I don't have as much luck with the indica strain I'll definitely try that. Thanks so much for all your help! Hopefully I can get back to actually being able to sleep.

Melatonin is a naturally occurring molecule we produce to induce sleep. Cortisol is what our body makes when it wants to stay awake.

Melatonin supplements are natural and completely safe, and you can take it alongside your MMJ to have a restier sleep. Melatonin signals your brain to go to sleep and the MMJ sedates you. The two effects together will be synergetic.

Plus, it's really cheap.

Yeah, will definitely have to look into it. I'm actually having a sleep study done to see if I have some kind of sleep disorder or... well, any explanation for why I can't sleep. In the meantime that sounds like it'll work nicely, though!

Melatonin is in fact, not completely safe, in long term studies people have become melatonin reliant. Their bodies simply stopped producing it because of the constant supply of pills. The same way you can be corticosteroid reliant, just with less dire consequences because melatonin action is almost entirely related to sleep.

I haven't seen the literature myself so I'd advise caution. Short term use is definitely fine so there's no harm in trying it so long you respect the posology.

Oh, agreed. Melatonin is a safe sleep aid for occasional use, I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

I've actually seen that mentioned re: Melatonin before. I'm used to trying not to take medication for sleep-aid all the time because of the consequences -- so I'm sure I'd be fine.

Hello, just thought I would comment on my experience. Since I have been using cannabis for crohn's I have never had a problem sleeping. I sleep so sound now that I actually believe that the crohn's is even better because my body gets so much good rest. It is real sleep too! Not the kind you get from drinking alcohol. That is more like unconsciousness. As others have said, Indica strains work best for sleep.

Reporting back to this thread to let you guys know how I'm doing! I've been using a high THC strain like you all recommended to me, and every night that I use it I've been getting great sleeps. Before I was falling asleep at 4AM, 5AM, 8AM, and always felt exhausted -- or would resort to sleeping pills which would just sedate me, if they would even work. Now I'm able to fall asleep with the MMJ, am sleeping earlier and for longer hours, and wake up far less than I did before. So the quality of my sleep has been great.

I'm not entirely sure, because currently I'm counting on my brother to get it for me... He's on MMJ, and I still need to apply for it but I'm waiting on a diagnosis for my sleep disorder. (Also, for a clinic to finish opening because my doctors don't really believe in it.)

He's unfortunately not very educated about it, so all he's been able to tell me is "they say this one is good for sleep" (when he goes to ask at his dispensary) but I can tell it's a pretty high THC from the effects of it. It's very pleasant.

I, too, had heard about something to be cautious of regarding Melatonin...I just couldn't remember what it was.
Here's a suggestion for something else to try along with your MM, should you still need it, & it is very safe...Calms Forté, by Hylands. It's homeopathic. Absolutely no side effects, no possible addiction, no "hangovers".. Here in So CAL we can get it many places these days; I get it at Sprouts or Whole Foods, but I believe it's also sold now in regular grocery stores like Vons or Ralphs, or maybe even at the bigger drug stores.

Looking at the ingredients, and I see it contains lactose... So thank you, but it looks like I won't be able to take it. Maybe someone else can benefit from your suggestion, though. :)

Im dosing Larry OG right now. I live is a state that legalized MMJ but no smoking, oils and food are the approved delivery so I am still going to buy illegally. Larry OG puts me to sleep about two hours after smoking and I always dose at 7:30pm and by the time I go to bed, I am ready to sleep. Leafly.com has some great info on many strains and I am sure that you could find something there. Might have a hard time finding it unless you live in a full legal state.
