The big overseas adventure is on.

Sarah booked her flight to London last night.

She has a passport and two year working visa for UK. Submitted her application to defer from university.

Still lots to do in the next month.

- buy medication
- get a medicare card
- travel insurance
- book a return flight

Wish me luck.

When I was younger....o.k. MUCH younger...I lived and worked in London and it was awesome!

Maybe we should tart sending you care packages of wine:hug:

That is sooo exciting for Sarah! What a great opportunity!

The final arrangements always seem endless but, somehow, always get done... :)

Way to go Sarah! And how scary for you, Catherine. I hope she will take her meds and have a fabulous time!
I might take my girls' passports away so they don't get ideas ;)

Brilliant! I bet she is super excited! :):):) And mum more than a little worried. :ghug:

Do you have any family over that way?

Dusty. xxx

Hope everything goes smoothly for her!!!!
Keeping our fingers crossed! Maybe we should start a wine fund for you!!!

Thank you for your good wishes. Miss Sarah is very excited, I on the other hand are very nervous.

We purchased some of her medications. The chemist had to order in extra stock for her. A little bit surprise for her as she had to pay the full PBS price.

My sister and her family live in Dubai, not very close but a lot closer then Australia.

My cousins wife has sisters who live in the UK. I have met them a few times. Actually I am facebook friend with one of them.

So exciting for her. A friend and I had talked about going to the UK when we were in our early 20s, my mom was not at all supportive, neither was my 'then' BF... I've always regretted not pushing ahead with it. :(

I'm sure it'll be a great experience and reassuring that you do know someone there she can turn to, if necessary (although, likely there will be no reason to!). :)

How much fun! I've never wanted to leave my home town but I always support those who do.
Hugs to you.

:shifty: Although if I had to travel overseas, I would go to Australia .
For some reason I like that idea.:D

:voodoo:It hard being a parent of an adult, they know everything:voodoo:

All the best to Sarah. I hope she has a safe trip and a wonderful time. Try not to worry too much ....:ghug:

Just back from the airport. Sarah's flight leaves in about half an hour.

Her infection doesn't seem to be spreading anymore. The red area is becoming smaller but the circle in the middle is very nasty looking.

Sarah has been in the UK for just over a month and seems to be doing well.

The house is very quite without her.

I have been very good, not asked her once whether she has found a doctor for the blood tests:rof:

Glad she's doing well!!! I bet it's difficult with the empty nest syndrome. :( Good job, I know if it would have been my mother she'd have been asking me at least a few times a day!!! :rof:

Wow Catherine that is seriously impressive. I would have asked 18 times in the first week

So glad she's doing well.

We had the standard aza blood tests done day before she left, which means the next one is not due for other 2 months.

Good planning on my part.:ylol:

Not really a empty nest as I have another two girls at home.

A little update

We have past the 2 month point.

She has registered with a GP in England. She has job doing fund raising.

No blood test done yet:confused2:

Good to hear she's settling in well. :)

I suppose you must take comfort in that, as she hasn't gone for a blood test yet, this is an indirect indication she's feeling well! :)

Tesscorm

I am taking comfort in the fact she registered with a GP.

Still a month to ago before the blood tests are officially overdue. I like two months between tests and the GI put three months on her letter.

Sarah has had her first blood tests done in England.

She had received a letter saying that the white cell is a little low and they want to retest in 4-6 weeks. Is this standard practice in England?

Wow! What a good girl taking care of those tests on her own. You must be so proud and comforted!

O had low wbc's and that is what we did...actually just retested at next infusion so 6-8 weeks. Second test came out fine. Hope same happens for Sarah!

It's been awhile since I regularly had my white cells checked like Sarah needs too. But, if I remember right, mine were too high and they checked mine sooner too. I'm thinking it may just be a precaution. Hope all's well otherwise for her!!!

I,ve found my clinic is really keen on blood tests and I,m done really regularly in fact was speaking to the clinic nurse on Tuesday afternoon and got a letter today complete with package to get bloods done next week.

I find it reassuring even though no one likes getting bloods done.hope your girl is enjoying the uk,London,s getting a heatwave and a summer unlike Scotland.its wet, humid and thundery.

Sarah is still in England and having a great time.

She 20 today.

She has just got back from 2 weeks around Spain with my sister and her family. My sister says she looks so healthy compared to when they saw her a year ago. She has gain about 5 kg and is not happy about it according to my sister. Still looks thin in photos.

She has a big week at work with the test in town. She has 46 hours!!!! She hoping for a better performance from Australia. The English are unbearable when they winning. She works in a pub.

Currently trying to work out how to get her iphone back to her. It made the trip back home with my sister and was replaced by Apple. Apple in UK wanted $400 to fix it.
You can't send a iphone by post, it is considered to be dangerous goods.

She should be having her repeat blood test shortly.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH! :bdayparty:

Congrats on the weight gain even though she doesn't see it that way.

I would like to volunteer to come pick up the phone and bring it over to London!

What is "the test"?

:birthday2: Happy Birthday Sarah!! So glad she's doing well and managing everything on her own!

What is "the test"?

Australia is playing England is test cricket. The five day game. The test is in the city where she is in living. The pub is opening two hours early for the cricket. The customers are reminding her how bad Australia are playing.

She is working 9am to 3pm, then break until 6pm to 10 pm for the duration of the test.

:birthday2: Great news that she's doing so well!!! She must be having a wonderful time! :D

Happy belated birthday to Sarah! :dusty::dusty::dusty:

Quick update. Sarah is still in England. She gone to Belgium for 3 days.

2nd blood test has been done and awaiting results.

She ended up ring the nurse after the last blood test to ask whether her white cell was around 4. After advising the nurse it was always 4 she was told she could follow her specialist advice and repeat in 3 months.

She still has plenty of medication. We have had a discussion on the fact she needs to ask the gp whether they will write a repeat for the medication now and not wait until she is about to run out.

They planning a trips to Europe in January. She will deferring for a second year from university.

She seems well. Not ready to come home but more interested again in being in close contact with her family. Contact seems to be easier when she not working.

I'm glad she's enjoying herself. How fun to be able to travel. I hope you have a good visit when it comes around.

We won't see her until she comes home which could be another 18 months. She has a two year visa.

Sounds great ! I'm trying to do it the other way round and take a visa too Australia from the UK. As for the white cell issue I've had that a couple of times and find comfort in knowing the doctors are so on the ball at spotting things. Best of luck and enjoy London :)
