Really nervous for MRI scan tomorrow.

Hi,
I wasn't to scared about it until after my colonoscopy prep last Monday.
I had to have moviprep and it was vile (my opinion) and now I'm worried about the laxitiv iv got to have when I get the hospital tomorrow. Will it be the same type of drink?
Another thing I didn't like the little cap thing they put in your are to give you the sedation in the colonoscopy, dosnt help when they couldn't get it in one arm coz it was hurting to much. Will I have to have one if these for my buscapan injection?
What are your over all experience with the MRI scan. I am so nervousness and would like some reassurance. Please be truthfully though. Thanks

PS
Just realised iv posted in the wrong place...

Hiya Nellie and welcome

I had one 5th Nov, and I have to admit it was very unpleasant. Truthfully.
The drink was gloopy wallpaper paste but you have to drink it because it expands the bowels to get a definate picture. About 1 litre.
You will need a canula inserted and expect 3 injections, buscopan every 20 mins and 1 xray dye.
The buscopan is to keep your bowels still to avoid blurry pics.
Then just breathe in when he asks you to thro the headphones. I listened to Coldplay and it was relaxing, about 45 mins.
But, after it was horrible, I was very blurry eyed, couldn't see for 10 mins, this is normal apparantly!
When I got home I was ok, then about 2 hours later the white gloop came out and I was on the toilet for hours, had the day off next day cos I was knackered!
good luck

Hi Nellie

Good luck with your MRI. I've had a couple now and they really weren't too bad. As Astra says the prep is like drinking lemon flavoured wallpaper paste but it isn't that unpleasant if you keep stirring it to stop it getting too thick at the bottom of the jug.

It is quite a noisy test, hence the headphones, but luckily they didn't have any Coldplay! I had to lie face down with my arms above my head but at no time felt claustrophobic, which is one of the common fears. Afterwards I went home by public transport and, luckily, didn't have any problems with keeping the prep liquid in.

Once again, good luck and let us know how you get on. Regards, Nigel

i had my MRI umm... about 4 months ago and i had to drink this watery thing that cleans your system out and it was horrible. i wasn't nerves about the MRI well because i had it alot and when i first had an MRI to be honest i was scared because they were going to put me in a hole that is small but i made it through.

my Colonoscopy prep on the 16th of this month and the next day at 7am i have the test but i am nerves about that more then the MRI i should say because you are not under anything like to put you to sleep

ha ha highlandsrock - Nigel!
That about Coldplay made me laugh like a hyena!
Unfortunately that's all they had.

Truthfully? I nearly fell asleep during mine. I had to drink some contrast mixed with fruit squash which I hate ( sometimes makes me wheezy ), especially when it's warm. It was a bit freaky at first in the machine, but they took away my pillow so my face wasn't so close to the machine. I felt like I was in a cosy coccoon with that thing they wrap round your stomach and that, Radio One and a day's fasting had me drifting off.....

Hi all. Thanks so much for your replies.
Iv just got home from my scan.
They gave me the prep. Didn't even finish the first glass and felt sick so they just gave me plain water and said "this won't give as clear a picture" it must have been clear enough coz they done the scan.
Had the canual put in my hand unlike my arm, were I had it for my endoscopy and colonoscopy.
The procedure was fine. Loud but fine.
The back of my hand is a little sore now but all went well. Buscapan made me have blurred vision. Only lasted about 5 mins though.
Thanks for all your support
