I had a total proctocolectomy three years ago. The cavernous wound was left to grow in and it did so nicely without infection. I've always had a little bit of mucus drainage. In the last two weeks I've had a lot of mucus drainage and now I'm seeing blood. I don't have a rectal stump. Doc did blood work and there no evidence of infection or abcess. I do yoga but I don't think that's doing it. Have history of fistulizing crohns, have new fistula in my jejunum (back to the intestine) and am on humira. I will call doc again but am scared. We really missed the recto-vaginal fistulas signs and symptoms. I wound up with horrible fistulas and a perforated rectum. Thoughts? Advice?

Hi Sammies, I am not sure how u can be losing mucus when the rectum has been removed? I have had mine removed and I know this wound is notoriously bad at healing. It sounds more like you still have a small area that has not healed. Healing can take place on the surface of the wound before it has completed in the lower layers. Sometimes wounds are left open and packed for this reason. It is not uncommon for these wounds to take years to completely heal.

I think you need to speak to your surgeon to find out what is going on and get it resolved.

Good luck, it sounds like you are doing so well three years on. I am only 6 weeks post op xxx
