My 17-year-old son just been diagnosed either ulcerative colitis or Crohn's second trip to hospital mom frozen in fear. His first about began with serious blood loss and a transfusion and treatments at the hospital a month later another bleed which has them now at Broward General he stayed for a colonoscopy and then a treatment on Remicade which he had a very bad reaction to yesterday very scary he is there today trying to figure out how when and where to possibly start that Humira. I am divorced and don't get that information from my ex-husband no information is here so I've been researching any information is helpful I'm worried about teenage boys on the Hugh Marah although I heard it's a great job and you'll be able to do at home. Hi and welcome!

Please check out the Parents of Kids with IBD section - there are LOTS of parents there with kids on Remicade and Humira.

First, try to breathe. Kids who react to Remicade do not necessarily react to Humira. Remicade is made of mouse protein, so more people tend to react to it. Humira is humanized and I can tell you from experience that MANY of the kids on here who reacted to Remicade did NOT have an allergic reaction Humira.

Both my daughters have been on both Remicade and Humira. Biologics really changed their lives and though I was very worried and afraid to put them on biologics, it's a decision I have never ever regretted. The side effects are scary but honestly, they are very rare whereas the complications of untreated IBD are common. At some point the disease became scarier than the meds, and honestly I am just so grateful that Humira and Remicade exist.

My younger daughter's scopes showed dramatic improvement 8 months after starting biologics -- all the ulcers in her colon had healed and in fact, the doctor said it looked "beautiful!"

I would also not panic about Humira because even if Humira fails, there are other options. There are other biologics approved for IBD: Stelara, Entyvio, Simponi, Cimzia.

Humira is an injection. It does hurt - it burns - but it's over pretty quickly. My girls used ice before the shot and watched TV during the shot so that they were distracted. My girls have had NO side effects from Humira. My older daughter is still on Humira and Methotrexate.

Ds had a reaction to remicade when he was 9.
He was then started on humira.
He is now 13 and has been on humira for almost 5 years without any issues
His last scope looked pristine .
No evidence of disease do humira is working very well
