My little brother is having a hard time with his Crohn's. He was admitted into Tomball Hospital on Friday and they had to do emergency surgery to remove part of his intestine. He is depressed now, with all that is going on, he is trying to stay strong for his family. They said it could be 3 to 4 months before he would be released back to work, possibly longer....

I thought an email from someone who has been in his shoe's will help cheer him up.

Also what should we do as family members to help support him in his time of need?

Im curous if there is any support groups for him in the North Houston Area.

Thanks
Steven.

I had to edit out his email address because that is against forum policy.

I'm sorry he is going through such a rough time. I think 3-4 months sounds like a long time for a normal resection. I was ready to go back to work after a month. Some might need a little longer but generally 6-8 weeks if there are no complications.

CCFA has support groups throughout the country. Your brother is also welcome to join here to gain support and knowledge.

I'm sorry to hear what your brother is going through. :(

Could you encourage him to join the forum? We would love to talk to him and help as much as we can. The forum is a great comfort to many of us, and a lot of us have made friends here who have helped us to cope.

As far as what you can do, just be understanding. For now, he has a reason to be upset - so don't push him, and don't get frustrated with him. It sounds like you're doing great with that already!

 I hope things go well for him!
