my bum hurts :(

Since being on Infliximab my stomach has been great. Unfortunately my bumhole is still pretty sore. Mainly when I go to the toilet it stings (especially when wiping afterwards), but will stay like that for a few hours.

I had a flexi a couple of weeks ago and mentioned this but he didnt say anything about that area except that my crohns is still active (mainly at that area). Ive started taking Predfoam (had some left) but not sure if it goes to far up (he said my doc will either put me on predfoam or pentasa suppositories). Is there anything else I could do to numb the stinging anymore?

Sorry Rygon. The only thing that has helped me is using wet wipes (like baby wipes for adults) and being extra gentle. I tried Desitin for a bit but it didn't seem to make a difference for me.

Are your BMs any different now than they were before you started getting sore?

Does it sting on the outside too then? If so you could try Sudocrem, it's nice and cool/soothing. Or if you can stand the initial sting, something like Germoline might help since it has a local anaesthetic. Might hurt like hell for a few minutes but from my experience it calms right down after and the burning goes away completely.

I use Predfoam too and have no idea how high it goes up, it's described as 'rectal foam' but whether or not it reaches the sigmoid I'm not sure. Where exactly was the disease active? You could ask for liquid/retention enemas, I've never used them but I think they treat the whole left side/descending colon (but you have to hold the liquid in overnight). I think there's a Prednisolone-based one called Predsol? There is a Mesalasine based one too, in the US it's called Rowasa but I don't know what they're called here.

Hope you find something that helps :).

Hey Rygon, not sure if you can use it but Calmoseptine does wonders for the sore butts and rash. I agree with Nic using wipes do help and use alcohol free! That will sting more. Hope you get relief!

Thanks for the replies. Ive been having D at least 20 times a day before, now im on Remicade (since august) its gone pretty much back to normal. My stools are mostly quite small and thin. Flexi still showed signs of active crohns so started Predfoam again.

Will look into the Calmoseptine Cheers, ive used vaseline a bit which seems to help (although never apply it after cutting up chillies, that stings a bit to say the least)

Vaseline is the least stingy after a BM. Calmo will burn a little almost like a strong cooling mint feeling.

I use the toddler bum wipes from Asda. They are flushable. Then I put vaseline on it. I am too much of a wimp to use germolene!!
I hope you find something that works for you soon. xxxx

My son uses Lotrimin it is an over the counter anti fungal cream. He has itching sometimes too with the pain. If you don't have any itching I am not sure you would want to try this. Just rinsing in a warm shower is all he can really take when it is really sore but the cream definitely helps!

I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It's really just Zinc Oxide, but it works immediately.

I've also been told today to use a Hydrocortisone Acetate 1% cream, but it stings when applied.

Last week I was using Rectal Rockets. They seemed to squash hemorrhoids very quickly.

bum/tush pain is the WORST!! I hate it. bad enough to have to use bathroom so much but to be reminded of it constantly with the darn pain is mental torture!

Rygon---I've used A&D ointment--and it worked wonders! It's great for any kind of skin irritation, burns, etc. It's kinda smelly with a medicinal odor--but hey--look where it's goin! LOL. Hope it helps--Johnson and Johnson makes it I think. You may be able to find it in the baby section. Hope it helps.:D

During my first colonoscopy they discovered internal hemorrhoids along with ulcers and inflammation. Internal hemorrhoids could be a culprit of the pain.

Thanks, I had a flexi done and told him of the problem (although he didnt seem to care) but he didnt say there was any. Normally the other doctors will listen to you a tad more..
