my daughter's story

She was diagnosed at 1998 when she turned 14 years old, when switched her from pediatrician to a regular internist. He noticed low iron in her blood work and age delay appearance . That's how "drug" life begun. After few years with pentasa pred and iron supplements in 2001 she ended up in the ICU. TPN for a few days ,and when she got introduced back to normal diet, her pee looked like her poop due to fistulas. After remicaid, pred, and many others she had ileo resection in the spring of 2002,which was her senior high school year. After 7 drugs free months after surgery, she got this pain back. . This time GI guru put her back on 6mp which she takes up till now with prevacid , fish oil gummy and vitamins.

Hi and welcome!

I am sorry your daughter's Crohn's is acting up again. I hope starting treatment again will get her well.

Greetings and welcome! Awww, I'm sorry to hear your daughter has had to go through so much :( I hope her newest treatment plan gets her into remission soon.

We do have a "parents of kids with IBD" section under the support forum area which you may want to check out as well.

Again, welcome. I hope to see you around :)

Hi and :welcome:

I'm so sorry to hear all that your daughter has been through. My daughter was also diagnosed at 14, hers was during emergency surgery which ended in a resection.

Your daughter has been in remission since commencing meds post op?

As others have said, pop by the parents forum located here and have a browse around.

I hope your daughter is managing well. Good luck and welcome aboard!

Thank you very much for your replies. I am not really new to this forum, have been lurking/reading for a good couple of years, but after reading MattsMom story about her 2 kids in Parents forum yesterday, I decided to register "officially". What we and our kids are going through is beyond frustration.
My daughter is almost 27 now, and still taking 6mp for almost 9 years. She had a few times an eye inflammation as well, probably related to this stinky illness.
Lets hope they come up with a miracle pill really soon!

Hi mom and welcome to the forum...I'm glad you finally joined us rather than lurking :)

I think it's valuable to have someone like you around who's child has had this nasty illness for so many years. It sounds like the 6mp has been very successful for her! Has she been able to stay at a steady dose for 9 years, or does it fluctuate ?

Hope to see you around :)
hugs,
~T~

Welcome DM!! Is she the doctor?? I hope so:) What a great way to thumb one's nose and say piss-off crohns!! We're all hoping for that magic bullet, meanwhile I hope her docs get her back to good again soon:)

she asked her GI a few times to lower her dose(2x50 mg daily), but he refuse. Sometimes she forgets and I am not around her anymore to remind.

The ward's air in the hospital along with drugs got into her blood and as a result, she put herself through med school, and now she is a first year resident physician in the hospital.

Haha, that's is fantastic!! I started reading that and I thought oh no!!, what got in her blood and made her sick:) One would think all those unwanted hospital trips would have driven her away!! She must make you unbelievably proud!!!
