So I decided this week that I was goin to try something new for me to see if i could help my self get out of this horrible mess. So I decided rightly or wrongly to only drink fluids for a couple of days. This was only water and a sports drink called High 5 which is 4- 1 carbs and protein. Its used for endurance cycling.
My thinking was when i eat solids it hurts ,I get pain ,nausea and D or C , so if I take the solids out of the equation and put in basics foods in liquid form maybe i wont hurt .
This was going to be in conjunction with daily cycling from 10 to 40 miles.
So I did break my own rules by having some cereal bars but Ive done 3 days with my usual meds Asacol, amitriptyline, metracloramide and I have to say I never felt better. Pain was greatly reduced ,no nausea and im a bit constipated but that goes with cycling.
It was like a breath of fresh air and I almost felt normal. My energy was pretty low but I am a determined type who wont give up.
I started eating solids again today as i know im not getting all the stuff i need from the drinks and guess what the pain and D are slowly but surely comming back. Stabbing pains hello again and bathroom delima's are part of my day again.
I 've had alot of gurgling going on down there and I could pee for Ireland , lots of acid in my throat and generally starting to feel S---.
So it was a lovely week getting out on the bike and apart from having no energy and mild sysmptoms I almost felt normal.
So here is a message for my doctor,
THERE IS SOMETHING IN MY DIGESTIVE TRACT THATS OBSTRUCTS THE FOOD. WHEN IT DOESN'T ASORB IT CORRECTLY I FEEL LIKE SHIT AND HAVE LOTS OF PAIN AND D OR C. MY BACKSIDE THINKS ITS A PENCIL SHARPENER. So please FIX ME !:sign0085:

When you started eating the solid foods what *exactly* did you eat? -and what did you drink?

Hi Judith
Well I suppose i had breakfast cereal ,tea and toast . usual stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary. I suppose i just wanted to see if taking the liquids would i get longer lasting relief with out having to increase medication.

No worries staci. I'm going to send you a "Private Message" that will hopefully help you out. You'll be able to read the PM by going to the top right of your screen.

I know how you feel. If I stick to clear liquids and sports drinks I seem to have a better time of it. Not perfect, but a lot less pain, no running to the bathroom within 20 minutes every time something goes in, and able to leave the house and not feel the need to know exactly where the nearest bathroom is at all times. Unfortunately I'm way too tired after a few days of this and keeping up with 3 kids! Solid food is definitely not my friend right now, but I'm hoping the entocort helps some. Having a somewhat normal life would feel great.

Jackie I cant believe how Ive adapted over the last years to this. It was only when i was out cycling a couple of days ago that i had a couple of hours when i felt normal . Strange sensation it almost made me nervous.
Im goin to look into how to do this properly incase I do more harm than good.
Im waiting on my new GI with all the results from the tests he did last week to see what he advises and then maybe I will try again.
I just got the feeling that my body was rewarding me for not feedings it solids. Crazy ,yes i am.:voodoo:

Jackie...I ditto to you what David said about enteral nutrition. Check out the threads in the Treatment Sub-forum.

Hey Peter I'd love to have the will power to eat less crap as I know for sure on those days my tummy always feels good and less bloated. I'm interested in the cycling and constipation!! I got out on my bike last week for the 1st time this yr and it was great although got a puncture. I'm doing the yardman titanic cycle on Sunday for bowel cancer awareness in Belfast not sure if you've heard of it it's only 6 miles so for amateurs like myself lol I might try the fluids only before I go!!

Archie thats great your doing the cycle. I have nt heard of it but Im sure there's a lot of these goin on around the country. Hopefully i catch one this year.
I think its more of preparing the day before, so if you know your routine you will know what to eat.
Personally since I started back on solids yesterday Ive been sick as a dog, Feels like a bad hangover, bad headache , very nauseas, and bad D. Cant eat anything today and its a bugger cause Im on night shift:rof:
Good luck on Sunday
