My skin is horrible right now. Last time I got a flare my skin got really dry. This time it is zits galore! Does anyone else have skin issues when they flare? What causes it?

Well, I know there are links between flares and women's menstrual periods due to fluctuating hormones. Hormones also play a role in acne. I'm not sure of the exact science, but this is probably why many women's skin improves while on birth control and vice versa. I think it's something about more estrogen causing more sebum production (this is what clogs your pores).

I must say I always had a problem with acne. especially the last two summers. I had a huge break out. But for some reason, My face has been clear for the last two months. Think its the Pentasa, not sure.
One thing I stopped eating is a lot of sugar. I think that also played a role.

I tend to break out as well when I am flaring. Usually on my cheeks and jawline. It also tends to be itchy. I think it may be just a general increase in the inflammation in my body when I'm flaring. It took me a while to notice that these break outs coincide with me flaring.

It must be due to flaring. Haven't changed anything else. Have breakouts all over my face. Some just tiny bumps others have become large and red. Sucks! Hate the way cover up looks on zits. You can always tell it's there. Hope it clears up soon.

I just heard the other day that cold chamomile teabags can help clear up acne. After brewing the bag (drinking it also soothes the belly!) and letting it cool, press it against any trouble spots. Might be worth a try :)

Tea tree oil has done very well for my skin as well. I use the tea tree oil products from The Body Shop, but St. Ives just put out a green tea scrub and cleanser. I just bought the scrub, but I've yet to try it. Good natural remedies!

I had terrible cystic acne with this last flare. It was so painful. They were deep and infected and painful. Since I started the pred and remicade my acne has improved dramatically. Usually people get worse acne on pred and mine got better.

I always get cystic acne along my jawline right before a bowel flare. No amount of meds help until you get the flare under control; methotrexate and Remicade have really knocked it out.
As far as natural remedies go, Herpanacine is a supplement that really helps me with breakout and skin issues in general. Also probiotics and peppermint tea, which also help the tummy. Coincidence? I don't think so.:)

OK so now my skin is drying out really bad. This is for sure the same as when I flared before.
Not to mention my hair is turning grey! I pulled out 3 grey hairs just yesterday. Hello....I'm not even 30 yet!

Does stress cause grey hair?

Oh well, going back to moisturizing my face and hunting for grey hairs.

Ahahaha....seriously, like a month ago my husband pulled a WHITE hair off my head. Not grey....WHITE! It was totally weird. I'm only 25. Haha.

Yep, I had the same experience. My hair started graying corresponding to a terrible flare I had in my 20's. In all fairness, it hasn't really affected me because I keep my hair colored lol.

I get patches of dry skin mixed with cystic acne. It was a lot worse when I was on prednisone. It tends to clear up on my better days, but in general, I always have it.

My doc doesn't know what to do about it (surprise). :yfrown:

Kegsworth - When I had cystic acne I got monthly facials at a holistic spa and it cleared up! This was way before I was diagnosed, of course, but could be worth a try :) And it's better than using more chemicals to treat your acne because the products they use use essential oils and natural things. It's all about controlling sebum output.

I used to get acne, even when using prescription face medicine. Not cystic acne, but several white heads, blackheads, and red bumps. My mom suggested I try Clinique face soap, and although I do get a bump or two sometimes it's helped quite a bit. I also use Almay makeup, it's really light and clean-feeling.

I've never considered going to a day spa being a guy and all. Maybe if take my girlfriend it won't be so bad.

:ylol2:

Plenty of guys went to the one I went to. It was a private spa, so there weren't a bunch of people there if you're worrying about what other people think of you. Look for a smaller place. Mine was in an old house that the woman used for her spa. I only ever saw the person that was waiting for the appointment right after mine.
