I was diagnosed with crohn's when I was thirteen and I am seventeen now. At first I was treated with prednisone and symptom wise- I FELT GREAT. But of course the side effects were atrocious. Then I was took off prednisone and I was put on pentasa and mercaptopurine. I've been on the same stuff ever since. And my symptoms are the same as when I was first diagnosed. My meds don't HELP AT ALL. I actually feel worse. My doctor won't change anything, she thinks my condition is not severe enough to go on something different. ( I suggested remicade) I still have diarrhea and cramping regularly. I'm worried about when I go to college and having to deal with these symptoms. I have been schooling at home because of my crohn's and my anxiety. I just want to feel better and I think my doctor thinks I'm being whiny. What should I do? Has anyone had this problem before? Is it normal to not feel any better despite your medications?:(

I would suggest getting a second opinion. See if a different GI agrees with your current one. My thought would be that if you still have symptoms, then different meds are called for. But you are kind of stuck unless you can get a Dr on board. Good luck! I'm sorry you feel so crummy all the time.
