Hello All

I was diagnosed with Crohn's when I was 10, 18 now- I suppose I'm lucky in that the only times I've ever felt any symptoms with my Crohn's is before my diagnosis. But that also presents a problem, because without constant pain, or some sort of signal, I find it difficult to take a steady stream of my medicine. I often feel bad about it, and I'll look up Crohn's online, in hopes to find something that would scare me into taking my medicine, or something of the sort, but no luck so far. Just today i found this forum, and decided it was a nice enough community, so decided to join. I'm not sure if there's other information I'm really supposed to be giving, so if there's anything you want to know about me, or my disease, feel free to ask.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

It is good you feel so well. Hopefully things will stay that way but it is good to learn a few things in case it flares up. I have learned a lot here already and the people are great.

What kind of medication are you taking? Sounds like it is working for you.

I am guessing that you are on a maintenance does of either Sulfasalazine or one of the Mesamaline containing formulations like Pentasa, Rowasa or Asacol plus maybe an immunomodulator like 6-mp. The purpose of this medication is to maintain remission. You are in remission now but the condition is still there. It hasn't gone away. You are 'in remission' not cured.

If you stop taking the maintenance meds, the inflammation and symptoms could easily come right back. Do you care to take that risk?

You should definitely consult with your doctor before discontinuing any medication that wasn't presribed to be taken 'as needed'. I am pretty certain the medication you are taking wasn't prescribed that way. Long term maintenance medication never is. I can almost guarantee what he or she is going to say. Unless you are experiencing serious side effects, keep taking your maintenance meds.

Hello and welcome to the forum!!

I'm pleased you are feeling well now since you have been diagnosed...
but, I need caution you about going off of your meds,
which is probably a maintenance dose to keep you at the level you are now.

Once again, welcome!

I couldn't agree more, I have felt fine for years and because of that I stopped taking meds for the last 4 years but a recent colonoscopy has shown that my CD is still active and the Doc has put me back on them, I still feel fine but it was a shock to be told I need to start taking them again.
