A little more than two days ago, I had a vasectomy reversal. I wrote up my experience which I posted on another forum, but I thought I'd share it here in case it's of interest to anyone

I woke up today at 4:50am and my fiance and I were on the road by 5:30. We arrived early to New Braunfels, Texas for my 7am appointment at the office of Dr. Loddie Roeder who was my vasectomy reversal surgeon. I was a little nervous as we strode inside, but not too bad. We were immediately greeted by the smiling faces of Dean and Tammy, Dr. Roeder's assistants.
Dean took us into his office where he asked us a few questions then gave me some Tylenol and Cipro to take. He was cracking jokes to help me stay relaxed and you could tell he was an all around good guy who really wanted the patients to feel at ease. About 15 minutes later Dr. Roeder came in for the day and poked his head in to say hi. He smiled, made good eye contact, and let me know I was in good hands and they were going to take good care of me. I believed him and felt even more at ease.
I was shown to the restroom to evacuate my bladder as it's obviously a bad idea to have to go during the surgery. My fiance and I were then shown the operating room and led into Dr. Roeder's office. We sat and talked to him for about 15 minutes. He explained everything to us and answered any questions we had. It was really nice being able to speak with him before the surgery, it made us feel much more comfortable.
My fiance was then put into a gown and mask (Dr. Roeder likes the wives to minister to their men during the surgery) and I was also given a gown. I then headed into the operating room and laid down on the table. At this point I felt a little anxiety and my body was a little shaky. But Dean, Tammy, and Dr. Roeder were ready for this and helped me relax. Having my fiance and my head was also comforting.
A grounding pad for the cauterizing iron was put on me which was a little cold, I was washed with what I assume was a sterilizing agent, and I was then draped. While I was obviously exposed, I didn't feel uncomfortable in the least. These were truly sincere, caring, professional people and I felt zero judgment. A drape was put up so I couldn't see the surgery and then Dr. Roeder led a prayer. While I consider myself agnostic, it was absolutely beautiful and I felt even more comfortable after. Even if I was atheist I think it would have been welcome as it was very heart warming.
After some prodding of my genital region to (I assume) feel for where my vas deferens was and test sensitivity, Dr. Roeder injected me with the numbing agent on the left side of my scrotum. Now, I'm not going to sugar coat it, it didn't feel good, but it wasn't bad either. It's the same exact injection as when you got a vasectomy. Once I was numbed up, he began the procedure.
My fiance is very comfortable with medical procedures so she watched everything while ministering to me. She was surprised at the size of the vas deferens. Dr. Roeder took a sample of my semen from my left side and they were able to see sperm parts which is a decent sign though not as good as whole sperm. The work on my left side proceeded without any issue and took about an hour. It was a relief to know that I was about halfway done.
Getting me fully numbed on the right side was a little more difficult. There were a couple times I felt more than I would have liked and he had to inject me with more numbing agent. However, all through this Dr. Roeder maintained a very cool, comforting, nurturing disposition; I knew I was in good hands. When the time came for the semen analysis on the right side, there was full sperm present which brought tears to my eyes!
After a little more than two hours, we were done. I was helped up and went to the restroom then into Dr. Roeder's office where he gave us more instructions. He even showed me how to properly get up from a chair
Here I am about 15 hours post surgery, sitting up in bed and typing on the computer. The only thing I am taking for pain is 2 maximum strength Tylenol every 4 hours. Frankly, my back is hurting more from sitting up than my groin region is right now. Keeping the jock strap on and not getting up for anything except to use the restroom is helping a lot.
All in all, I would recommend Dr. Roeder to anyone. He and his staff are absolutely amazing people. As he says, it's all in gods hands now. Thanks to Dr. Roeder, if we're supposed to get pregnant, god won't have to do quite as much work now
