Newly diagnosed and seem to be having all sorts of issues....and its freaking me out!! Seems like bad news after bad news....
I know it seems like that at first but it does get better, it just takes some time.
Nails...my nails are so weak and they break really short all the time....so short it hurts.....is this typical?
Happened to me a lot. Problem is that we don't absorb vitamins very well so its best to take extra. Things like Ensure drinks have a lot of vitamins in them and even a multivitamin will help. Your body will reject any extra vitamins it doesn't use so don't freak out too much over the dose (well don't be taking the whole bottle now, follow the directions).
You need more vitamin A and Calcium (and everything else really).
Liver...new lessions on my liver....what is this all about?
That's something I've never had a problem with but its not far fetched that issues with your gut can cause a strain onto other organs. Maybe someone else will have more info on this.
Some sort of strep bacteria in my urine, ever had this??
I've heard many people on hear saying that they get urinary tract infections and even I have in the past although I don't believe its a common symptom, just something that can occur from time to time for some people.
Severe back pain....feels like my kidneys are infected...but their not, is back pain common with disease, or during/after flare??
This is common. Stress on the gut means stress on the back and the same goes if you have back pain it may cause pain in your abdomen. I think its more common during a flare as I haven't had much back or abdominal pain since I've been in remission.
My body hurts everywhere somedays....I feel like Ive been hit by a truck...every muscle, joint and bone hurts, is this normal??
Yes that is very normal during a flare. I had severe body aches during my flares and I thought I had the flu for months before I was even diagnosed. Drink plenty of water and use a heat pad to help with any pain and take any kind of pain medication that you can tolerate (for me I take Advil but a lot of people here can't handle it and I believe they would recommend Tylenol instead).
Severe headaches/migraines....how long does this last??
This varies from person to person. For some of us we get bad headaches. This could be due to many things like lack of oxygen or not enough fluids (again keep drinking water or something, even tea is fine), sleep deprivation (a lot of us are insomniacs) etc. If regular pain meds like Tylenol don't work for you then maybe contact your doctor and they may be able to help you out in that area.
When do I get to stop taking 30 plus pills a day??
Haha! I wondered that too for the longest time. Some people have to take more pills than others and that's usually because they aren't in remission. I'm only supposed to be taking 2 medications but the dose makes it so I take 7 pills a day and that's not including a multivitamin or my heart medication or anything else. I think once better medications come out to treat this then we'll be able to take less a day but until then, you should expect to be on medication for the rest of your life (until there's a cure) and the number of pills you take will change throughout your lifetime.
