Nails...my nails are so weak and they break really short all the time....so short it hurts.....is this typical?

Liver...new lessions on my liver....what is this all about?

Some sort of strep bacteria in my urine, ever had this??

Severe back pain....feels like my kidneys are infected...but their not, is back pain common with disease, or during/after flare??

My body hurts everywhere somedays....I feel like Ive been hit by a truck...every muscle, joint and bone hurts, is this normal??

Severe headaches/migraines....how long does this last??

When do I get to stop taking 30 plus pills a day??

Thanks~

I know it seems like that at first but it does get better, it just takes some time.

Happened to me a lot. Problem is that we don't absorb vitamins very well so its best to take extra. Things like Ensure drinks have a lot of vitamins in them and even a multivitamin will help. Your body will reject any extra vitamins it doesn't use so don't freak out too much over the dose (well don't be taking the whole bottle now, follow the directions). :p You need more vitamin A and Calcium (and everything else really).

Liver...new lessions on my liver....what is this all about?

That's something I've never had a problem with but its not far fetched that issues with your gut can cause a strain onto other organs. Maybe someone else will have more info on this.

Some sort of strep bacteria in my urine, ever had this??

I've heard many people on hear saying that they get urinary tract infections and even I have in the past although I don't believe its a common symptom, just something that can occur from time to time for some people.

Severe back pain....feels like my kidneys are infected...but their not, is back pain common with disease, or during/after flare??

This is common. Stress on the gut means stress on the back and the same goes if you have back pain it may cause pain in your abdomen. I think its more common during a flare as I haven't had much back or abdominal pain since I've been in remission.

My body hurts everywhere somedays....I feel like Ive been hit by a truck...every muscle, joint and bone hurts, is this normal??

Yes that is very normal during a flare. I had severe body aches during my flares and I thought I had the flu for months before I was even diagnosed. Drink plenty of water and use a heat pad to help with any pain and take any kind of pain medication that you can tolerate (for me I take Advil but a lot of people here can't handle it and I believe they would recommend Tylenol instead).

Severe headaches/migraines....how long does this last??

This varies from person to person. For some of us we get bad headaches. This could be due to many things like lack of oxygen or not enough fluids (again keep drinking water or something, even tea is fine), sleep deprivation (a lot of us are insomniacs) etc. If regular pain meds like Tylenol don't work for you then maybe contact your doctor and they may be able to help you out in that area.

When do I get to stop taking 30 plus pills a day??

Haha! I wondered that too for the longest time. Some people have to take more pills than others and that's usually because they aren't in remission. I'm only supposed to be taking 2 medications but the dose makes it so I take 7 pills a day and that's not including a multivitamin or my heart medication or anything else. I think once better medications come out to treat this then we'll be able to take less a day but until then, you should expect to be on medication for the rest of your life (until there's a cure) and the number of pills you take will change throughout your lifetime.

You're welcome and welcome to the forum. :D

I am not sure if these are normal with this illness, but I also cannot grow out my nails ever.
I just assumed that my body pain was separate from my crohn's so I really can't say either way. I guess that is something to ask my doctor when i see him again.
I am so sorry that you are hurting so much and so often. I hope that new and better treatments come out soon.

I definitely have the nail issue. I have begun taking multivitamins and occasionally drink Ensure. I am hoping my nails will get stronger.

Thanks guys, Im glad Im not alone....bc this sucks, and its very depressing!! But with all your input, I feel a little better knowing there are others like me!!

sorry to hear hun =/ try not to get too stressed tho, i know thats like, impossible, but stress tends to turn the tummy more if yah know what i mean.

Nails...my nails are so weak and they break really short all the time....so short it hurts.....is this typical?

my nails are screwed up too. i mean i do bite them too, but they are not healthy and strong anyways. dont think that is too abnormal, as crohns makes you not absorb nutrients very well. and the nutrients that ARE taken in are...rationed...if you will. least thats how i see it.

Liver...new lessions on my liver....what is this all about?

hmm never had this problem! how long have you been taking meds for the crohns? have you been taking meds for anything else for a long time?

Some sort of strep bacteria in my urine, ever had this??

hmm never heard of that either, sorry!

Severe back pain....feels like my kidneys are infected...but their not, is back pain common with disease, or during/after flare??

YES backpain can be common espec in times of flare. i find that the pain from my intestines, stomach, or even esophagus can radiate to my back. also i remember when the disease in my rectum was very bad it would give me bad lower back pains. lay on a heating pad? it helped me a bit.

My body hurts everywhere somedays....I feel like Ive been hit by a truck...every muscle, joint and bone hurts, is this normal??

are any of your joints actually swollen? cuz crohns can also inflame the joints a bit. sort of like a secondary arthritis. so you may be expereincing a bit of that. also keep in mind that your body is working EXTREMELY hard as it attacks (theoretically) and reheals itself. i would not think its unlike that hit by a truck feeling you get when you have the flu.

Severe headaches/migraines....how long does this last??

are you on prednisone or any other steroid? for me the pred gave me monster migranes. though headaches are a common side effect of other drugs too. OH for these aches and pains, just wanted to say to only take tylenol for them. you may already know, but things like advil, excedrin and stuff are not good for crohns.

When do I get to stop taking 30 plus pills a day??

*sigh* if you discover the answer to that one, will you let us know?

best of luck to you! keep asking questions theres so many people here with wonderful info to share!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Re. one of your questions, I don't know if it's Crohn's related, but I did have a UTI this week for the first time in several years (am taking antibiotics for it). During the prep for my colonoscopy I kept dashing to the washroom. Wheee.

Liver...new lessions on my liver....what is this all about?

Now that I think of it, I remember that medications like 6MP and Azathioprine can actually cause liver damage over time which is one of the reasons you're supposed to have regular blood tests done while taking it.

"Azathioprine and 6-MP can induce inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) and pancreas (pancreatitis)."

it is not just out intestine that gets inflamed. It is also often the membrane that holds our guts in place. And that can also transfer to the tendons and tissues that anchor the spine to the pelvis.

An achy painful lower back can be the result of this. Look up Sacroiliitis.

My nails were all ridged from malabsorption but it is all fixed up now. Hope you get things under control soon and start feeling better.
