I am suffering chronic diarheo and cannot tolerate limit il or loperamide or codeine after years of use. Are there any natural remedies I can try. Fibergel has no impact.

Getting quite desperate

Thanks

Have you been diagnosed mark70? Are you on any kind of treatment right now? Many members have used Psyllium Husk to help with diarrhea.

avoid lactose(milk sugar) and sucrose(white sugar, cane sugar, etc). Pathogenic bacteria love this stuff so you can starve them and it may help. So choose cheese instead of milk, and just avoid sugary foods. Reduce or eliminate fruit and fruit juice consumption as that also contains sugar. This will likely help but may not be strong enough to eliminate all symptoms of diarhea. This is some things I've learned from the breaking the vicious cycle its called the Specific Carbohydrate diet.

Boost your immune system with 500mg vit c and take 1000iu vitamin d.

I have a jpouch so am familiar w cronic D. I suggest "binding" foods - corn chips are a good one for me, as is rice. I follow the Low FODMAPS diet which is similar in suggesting you limit sugars. Most sugars make me really sick feeling and give me the runs to the bathroom, as can wheat (sugar). Not sure why rice doesn't do it, as I know that also is broken into sugars. Low residue diets also help. I find smart water or decaf green tea (hot or iced) is better for me than sugary electrolyte drinks and sometimes I get too much gurgling with straight water.

I also have tried psyllium husk which helped (there's biscuits as well as drink supplement), but I've also had the opposite problem where I did too much and then all of a sudden I was constipated!

Hope you find a good balance!

Yes I have been diagnosed for 25 plus years. Only treatment at the moment is Himura plus Colostipol. I have tried Psyllium husks a long time ago and perhaps I need to give them a retry

Not heard of the biscuits in the UK will have to do some research and try to get them

I ma thinking I need to try a the diets suggested by all on this thread and see which works.

Thanks.

The ones I was thinking of are "Metamucil" brand. There's also recipes online when searching "psyllium" and "biscuits."

good luck!

The only thing that stopped my one year long diarrhoea was the take of garlic.
I take it fresh in the middle of the meal and I chew thoroughly. I was on corticoids and still am. I don't know if there is an interaction between the two.
Good luck, hope it helps.
