need help cant take anymore

Hey just want to share my current crohns story. I.m a ball of emtions at the minute and i'm 5 weeks in hospital spent my 20th birthday in here. was only diagnosed in feb by exploraty surgery for appentiditis and by small bowel follow through showed 10cm crohns in terminal ileum. did'nt make it for colonscopy two months on as the day before it an abscess formed on my scar from the laprascopy was told i had kidney infection to come bak in 7 days was back in the er the following day with the pain and it rose.

been here 5 weeks on loads of antibitiocs, cripo and flagyl didnt work, tazocin and gentimycin, vancomycin. took a reaction to either vancomycin or tazocin so all antibitiocs stopped now. on iv steriods which arent helping my rash has spread and got worse this is day 3 after reaction now.

first i was told i had the abscess inbetwen two loops of bowel and now its an intra abdominal abscess attached to my abdominal wall i'm so confused an one my surgical docs told me today to stop asking questions and not get involved with my disease. I'm starting to think they dont no whats going on and possibly they caused the abscess from previous surgery.

I have more complications now than i did when i came in caught mrsa in here and now this rash is unexplained possibly a delayed reation to pencillin in tazocin surely theres an allery tests out there to prove this?

I'm so afraid to take any more tablets surgical team wont decide on surgey, Gi doc wont deal with me till after surgery. I'm 20 years old 5 weeks in hospital in an isolated room and no on one is telling me anything.

they have stopped all antibitiocs for 2 days to see will rash die down.. they bugs which is a resistant form of e coli in my abscess is surely goig to multiply with no medication.

if any of you's experienced anything like this with the medication or reaction or same type of abscess please let me no i'm loosing all faith.

Hi Joo. I don't have any experience with abscesses, but I wanted to tell you I hope you your doctors can figure out what is going on soon and help you to start feeling better. Hang in there!

Gosh, you poor thing! I'm so sorry you're going through this :( MRSA is certainly common in hospitals these days, I know I'm very likely a carrier because my fiance works in an ER. The good news is it's not the end of the world and they WILL get it under control. They just have to find the drug(s) that work best for you.

I pray that things start getting better for you immediately. In the mean time, we're here for you!

*hugs*

Hey there. I dont have crohns myself but my brother has had it for 6 years. Its an awful disease and hes been through a lot with it. Several abscesses and ops. His most recent problem is mouth ulcers. He is currently on infliximab. At one stage he also had the shingles as a result of his immune system being suppressed. Your rash should definitely be tested. If it starts to spread around your waist area/to your back get checked straightaway for shingles. I really hope youll be okay soon. My brother is 20 and has been put on drips in the past and really down about it all. Its tough to deal with and I know what you're going through. The doctors will do what's best for you though. Here to talk anytime :)

Hey joo.

No experience with abdominal abscesses, but hang in there! Stuff does get better, once they figure out how to best medicate you.

Good luck.

hello Joo,

I'm semi-newly diagnosed as well.. actual Crohn's diagnosis was in Aug of last year.. the day i went in for a fistula/abscess surgery. I hope the Dr's get things sorted for you! I went through a range of emotions as well. And Dr's, with one thing after another coming up. It helps to have a Dr/Dr's that take the time to care, and explain what's going on in your body to you. After I started getting sick last year I did my own research on all the labs i recieved, levels, meds they put me on... etc.. it's helps to do your own research for peace of mind i think. Also, the Dr's did tell me that when you have an AutoImmune disease like Crohn's active in your body it could possibly "turn on" other ailments, and cause inflamation in other areas of your body, including the skin..

I hope things look up for you!! They do get better in time. hugs

Hey joo,

I'm so sorry to hear all this is continuing with no end in sight.

Could it be possible you have two abscesses? Matt had two but they didn't find the second one until he had his surgery. It was also an abscess that was attached to his abdominal wall. To be honest joo, it is sounding like until you have surgery these problems aren't going to fully resolve, sure, you can keep them in check but not cure the problem. Perhaps this is also why the GI seems reluctant to do anything at present, is it that without surgery treatment for your ongoing Crohns will only be a lip service?

I think what you need to is nail the surgeons down with is...

Do I need surgery to treat my current problems?

If so when is that likely to happen and what are you basing your decisions on?

If the surgeons don't think you require surgery then I would move away from them treating me and move onto a GI, preferably one with an interest in Crohns.

Good luck joo and please continue to keep us updated when you can.

Much love,

Hi Joo, I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. I'm an allergist, and wanted to offer some answers to your questions about the drug-induced rash.

Uunfortunately, there is no good way to test for drug reactions (in regards to your rash). There is a skin test for penicillin, but it's generally used to rule out acute reactions (think anaphylaxis) instead of reactions that occur after taking the drug for several days. Other drugs can be tested in an "experimental" fashion, but this is not standardized in the medical community, and so not everyone will do it for you.

Your doctors should be looking out for a couple of serious drug reactions, including DRESS syndrome, serum sickness, and Stevens-Johnson/TEN (pretty easy to tell based on the appearance of your rash and some associated labs). Those would be contraindications to restarting the culprit antibiotic (if they can figure out which one it is, based on the timing of when they started each one). Otherwise, most rashes related to drug reactions resolve fully with withdrawal of the offending drug. There are definitely other things that could be causing the rash - hopefully your team can put their heads together and figure this out, asap.

I also hope you can (soon) get whatever is going on inside fixed, so you can get off of the antibiotics for good.

Hope this helps. Hang in there, we are thinking of you.
-Doc
