Hi everyone! I`m a 29 year old girl/woman from Norway who is newly diagnosed with Crohns. Or, at least thats the doctors working diagnosis. The symptoms started suddenly with stomach pain, and after three weeks I got low fewer too. I was hosptialized and had a colonoscopy done. The doctor found ulcers in the terminal ileum and said it looked like Crohns. I haven`t got the biopsy results yet.
But I wonder, is it possible to have Crohns without the classical diarrhea?? I have "only" stomachpain and shifting constipation and almost normal stool. In addition jolt pains and sore eyes, sensitive to light.

I`m also wondering how long it usually takes before the drugs i starting to work? I take 9 mg Entocort a day, and I still have a great deal of pain. I`ve used it for 15 days now.

By the way, this is great forum! :thumright:

Hi Jannicke and welcome!

Yes u can have CD without diarrhea.

I was on Entocort (budesonide) some time ago and had good results myself, however...

quote -

"For Crohn's disease involving the ileum and/or ascending colon, ENTOCORT EC is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate active disease"

i would think that you should see some benefit after 2 weeks if it was to be effective, i also believe it only acts on certain areas of the bowel so u may need something else such as prednisolone which has a more complete effect but more side-effects - ask your doctor once your diagnosis is confirmed (or not).

Hope that helps

Ian

Hi Jannick and welcome! I, too, do not suffer from D (*knock wood*). And as Ian said, Entocort can take a few weeks to kick in. So, hang in there at least another week. If you are still are not seeing any improvements, best phone your doc. I sure hope it will start giving you relief sooner, though! Good luck!

Hi Janicke,
Crohn's happens in many mysterious ways. In my 20 years of Crohn's, I never had much pain. But lots of diarrhea, fistula, bleeding, etc.

Hopfully the meds will start working soon. If not, your doc should try another medicine.
Best of luck to you!

Thanx all!
Yes, I`m just going to have to wait a little bit more for the Entocort to work. I`m hoping that I won`t need other meds(read about all the horrible side-effects!)
Phoning the hospital on monday to get the biopsy-results(hopefully).

I just wanted to say, "Welcome!" You will really like the forum. There are so many terrific, and supportive people here, and lots of information. :)

Hi Jannicke

Welcome to the forum. Totally agree with what Ian has said. I am currently flaring with my crohns and it's located in the same area as you. I tried Endocort this time for two weeks and it did nothing for me. I'm now on prednisolone which has worked wonders but I am having some unwanted side effects :(

I hope the Endocort works for you. Good luck.

I have also never had pain, which seems to be a common syptom for most other people. I do get the whole bleeding, fistulas, diahrrea, fevers... etc. though.
Hope everythings okay with your Crohns, it just takes some time to get used to! You'll find lots of support on this forum :)
