Good evening! I'm pretty happy to find a forum that I can get some support of parents. I know of no one else around my area that has a child with it and sometimes I feel like there aren't any outlets to explain how I feel or ask questions to. She's been diagnosed over a year but Dr. judged by the lesions she had had it for quite a while. She takes Remicade infusions every 8 weeks at Childrens Mercy hospital in St. Louis and they are wonderful to her. She handles it very well but we have tried to always keep a sense of humor about it with her. In the last year she has gained almost 20 lbs and grew 2 inches which was huge for her. Her lowest weight in the last year after a bad month long flare was 98 lbs and she is back up to 118 now. I told her our goal is no resections... ever. Hope we can reach that goal! Thanks for being here. I look forward to learning more. :ghug:

Hi and welcome.

There are lots of great parents here. They are a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Sending you and your daughter my support.

Welcome to the forum. I'm so glad your daughter is doing well on Remicade.
My girl is 5 and on the same med.
I hope someday to have a great update like yours.
Please as many questions as you like.
We're all here to support each other.

Glad you joined us.

Ds was on remicade for 8 months at age 8.
He is now 11 and on Humira plus Mtx.

Welcome! It sounds like you have a great attitude with your daughter. We have the same goal - no surgery!

No Remicade here (hospital is too far away for the infusions).

Our daughter is 4 and just started Humira. We also do 6 weeks at a time on EEN and cycle it with partial EN.

Welcome to the forum! Glad your daughter is doing well. My 10 yr old son was dx'd in March 2013. It's a rough road in the beginning, but so wonderful when you start seeing your child feel, and do better again. Drop in often. There's lots of great info and knowledgeable parents here.

Welcome. Glad your daughter is doing well. This is a great forum full of special people! And smart ones too! I've learned so much here. Maybe we'll cross paths in the clinic or infusion room :)

Hi there and welcome! My daughter was dx'd at 12 and went right to Remicade as well. Similar situation, she had probably had the disease for a long while but it wasn't until her first big flare that we realized it.

Great news on the weight gain!

Remicade has been wonderful for my daughter and in three years ,blips, but no flares, great weight gain and sprouting like a bean stalk. Early, strong intervention and Remicade have a great track record of avoiding surgeries.

Good luck!

Welcome, my son is 15, dx'd at 10 and so far no surgery or hospital stays. It will be 5 years since diagnosis on March 2nd. He is also on remicade, we go today for an infusion the last one before his year anniversary on remicade it has been an incredible year full of health and growth.
I hope your daughter has many years of full remission.
:welcome:

Welcome to the forum! What great news about the weight gain and growth. Long may it continue.

We went straight to remicade as well. My son thinks infusions are like little vacay days since the infusion labs pamper them so!

Hi, I'm very sorry to hear about your little girl... Please be very careful when your Doctor wants to put her on steroids, my sister and I both got crohns at 11-12 also,, and ofcourse everyone with crohns have had it for a long time before we complain enoght to see a doctor and the long time to Diagnois for it...I never complained much because I was terrified of what it is, because we know that what we are feeling is very more serious than just a belly ache, I waited until 17 I went into the Navy, and I had my large intestine hemmorridge oneday while I was in the Navy hospital,[Don't care what any women says, NOTHING[no baby] is more painful than the intestines popping open and then being internally poisoned],lol.. that happened at 17 years old. because my intestines were swollen closed and when I was put back on clear diet the next morning, my life turned around....Now, since I had Crohns ,when my sister turned from 10 to 11 she was getting a lot of stomach pain and got worst, since her doctors knew about me in the hospital with crohns they tested her for crohns and found it...This was back in 1987,, The doctor didn't really now much about crohns and how to fight it,, except for striods, so since my sister was so young and catching the crohns early, they gave her steroid for a long time, and since my sister is 11-12 she is still GROWING the steroids ended up Shatering her spine in 8 different places she had to wear this costomised back brace for years until she stop growing and allow the spine to heal... Well,, now, she grew mispreportioned,, long back[ upper body with short legs, she really went through a lot... See if her treatment can not have steroids until shes 17-18 years..I have to tell you now,, this has really put my mother threw hell see her kids in so much pain and sickness,,,YOU, are going to have a lot of days of stress and sadness for you girl...We kids seen that and I keep everything pain sickness quiet for my mother don't have to worry...This is going to be a life time of sickness and pain , she too will feel like going crazy from so much pain + sick... I'm telling you now ,NOT to scare you ,but , to tell you that when it gets worst being surprised is not good with crohns I'm 48 now and battled with , the worst crohns that my doctors ever had...There may be a day where you daughter may begin to LOSE weight completely uncontrollably, only 1/4lb.-3/4lb. a DAY.. I was 17 and went from 152 to 89 and the doctors didn't have any clue why and what is going on,, I really thought I was going to die,,I could stand from no strength,,, if this happens,,IT because her INTESTINES are swollen closed and the body is fighting to maintian its balance, and surgery is the ONLY thing that will save anyone..I just want you to understand why,, if you ever see this going on....I'm so sorry if this scared you..I never got to now what was happening and THAT is Terrifing more.. Rodney

Tinetineandtone, please keep in mind that the internet is FULL of horror stories. People doing well are not on the interment, they are out enjoying life. Take the internet with a grain of salt. It does NOT mean your daughter will experience the worse of the worse.
