Hi everyone,

I'm 25 and have had Crohn's for 5 years. I started Humira last September and I am having a hard time being compliant on it. I tend to stop when I feel better, because the injections are so painful. My stomach is bloated, painful and noisy tonight. I went to 8 drugstores tonight to find Humira, and now I am sitting on my couch, trying to push this needle through my skin, but bail and put it back in the frige. :yfrown:

Any advice?

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Are you using the pen or syringe?
I used to have this problem with the pen, I would sit there for hours holding it up to me. The syringe cured that for me because I could control it better and it feels less painful. Either way, it helped me get over the mental barrier.

Do you just use Humira sporadically when you don't feel well? If so, does a GI doctor know you do this? It a drug that is meant to be used long term in a set regimen.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, no I do not use it sporadically, I have to inject every 2 weeks. I stopped a few months ago for 6 weeks because I was holding the pen for hours like you did, without being able to click. Then I found a nurse to inject me with a syringe, but she is not available very often. I worked during my last appointment and i've missed 4 weeks again. I really have to inject it tonight, I have to get over my fear of the pain and do it, but can't seem to physically do it.

Gotcha, sorry for getting confused! It it very tough to get the injection over with for me still, so I totally understand. Before I do the injection I like to take a warm shower and get ready for bed and drink some tea or something to relax myself, it works to get rid of the nerves. Maybe try something like that or whatever works for you that is relaxing? I've found that my mindset can make the difference in getting it done. You can do it!

I will do just that and do it, tonight! Thank you!

(I will confirm my success tomorrow!...i better...!)

I DID IT!!!!!! Thank you so much Emily, you were the push I needed for tonight, and it went so well I will be good doing it alone from now on!

I put a hot water bottle on my stomach, drank hot chocolate (skim/lactose free of course) took a shower, put relaxing music on... then turned off the lights and used the moonlight to do it. :) Ouff, good for 2 weeks, yayy!!!
