Hello everyone Hope y'all are enjoying your weekend.

As most of you know I saw a new doctor on Thursday, and although he was not a GI he has accepted me as my new primary care physician. Finally someone listened after dealing with this CD for almost 6 years. I have had 1 resect and no one would listen when I would tell them my symptoms.

Here go the questions: He put me on 2 antibiotics which seem to be protocol.Cipro and flagyl because of the frequent fevers and pain. He also took me off Zantac and put me on prevacid to stop the acids before they start. Still on B12 injections 1xweek at home. Ok now he also put me on sulfasalazine 500 mg 4x's a day. I am noticing even with eating I am keeping and upset stomach, and Lord all I want to do is sleep. When I awake still feeling a bit woozy. I know it can be a side effect but can anyone tell me how long it can last before my body accepts it as the norm and straightens up?

My husband,God love him, said to me this morning (after only 3 days of being on new medication) "I don't know what to say love, but you said you wanted some medication to help with CD and pain, now ya got it and it is making you sicker." Ironically he is so right. Does everyone go through this when they first start out? Or am I doomed from the get go?

Thank you all so much for helping me through this web of trials and tribulations I am so glad I found this forum and I adore everyone that is here.
Warm regards
:D

Have you been officially diagnosd with CD?

I was 1st put on pentasa to help (which it did and personally think is th 1st step), Ive also tried othr drugs (cipro i tried but did bugger all).

I'd defo look into diet and what could cause problems ( wholegrain, corn, etc). You will find the medical area will not undrstand this as much as theres not ben a lot of research about it (drug companies cannot mak money out of diets). Saying that i'd be careful on you read off the internet. Anything you think is good always ask us to get a decent opinion.

Hope ive helped you anyway and welcom to the forum, good to have you aboard :)

Hang on in there and see how you feel after you've finished the antibiotics. Flagyl is notorious for making people feel really yukky. But the Cipro/Flagyl combo can be really effective in clearing up nasty infection. Helped heal an abscess and fistula for me. The new doc sounds really proactive and thorough which is great.

Thanks for the info.
I was diagnosed in 2005 when I had surgery for adhesion's. Low and behold once in there my surgeon found what he suspected all along. He removed the appendix, ilium, cecum, and 27 cm of small bowel. All pathology came back positive for Crohn's Disease. I am sticking it out with the antibiotics although I know it has to be the flagyl because I have taken cipro before and never felt this poopy. Have you heard anything about the sulfasalazine making you sleepy? I have this reaction with other medication that isn't supposed to make you drowsy but they do me.

I am on 500 mg four times a day. So I guess it is a medial dose because some are taking up to 4000 mg a day.

As for diet, I went to a dietitian shortly after I was diagnosed and she was a big help. It always changes so what I could eat 2 months ago with no problem sometimes backfires and I am laid up the next day. For the most part I have a good regimen down. Plus the B12 shots every week at home really help.

Thank for the input it is greatly appreciated
