I went to the hospital to get an ng tube but the ones they had were to big so I had to spend the whole day waiting:boring:for a small one. They tried the big one a couple times and all they did was jab the back of my nose.
When we finally got the smaller ones they tried three times. one of the times I nearly threw up so we had to pull it out. My parents decided not to use the ng tube but i have to drink the medicine for eight weeks without any other foods or drinks, seven a day. I'm glad it's only ensure I have to drink.

I hated the thought of the feeding tube so just said no to it. Be happy you are not having to have modulin as I thought it was disgusting and kept nearly throwing it back up. I was then put on fortisip and ensure. Cant look at the fortisip without feeling sick now so I'm just on ensure.
How do you find drinking them?
I can't drink them by them self so I mix the apple ensure with some normal Blackcurrant juice and have also made orange ensure ice cubes.
You can also make jelly out of them.

I know how you feel with the drinks, I didn't tolerate my feeding tube or modulen very well so they had me drink ensures and have no food for six weeks. It was a tough time and I spent the whole time obsessing with the foods I couldn't have.

But for me it was the best thing I could have done because my body could handle them so much better than food. I was able to absorb nutrients from them so I had so much energy and so little pain (I was also on pred to bring my inflammation down so that would have helped reducing the pain too). So although it will be very tough at times, stay strong :hug:
I hope it works as well for you as it did for me!

Couple of tips I found: If you freeze the milkshake ones they are like ice cream and drinking through a straw when they are cold out of the fridge helps get past the taste a bit

The first and only time I had an ng tube I threw it up 5 minutes later. One of the worst and weirdest feelings ever. I'm so glad that they can use a mickey button instead of an ng tube, I hope it works out for you

i thought my doc was joking. what's the point of a feeding tube, if you can't tolerate food what's the difference how you swallow it?

The feeding tube you are fed liquids so it will just run through your bowel and it's not having to struggle to break up the foods, which is what causes to pain (when your bowel is trying to break up solid foods) it gives you all the nutritional goodness you need.

not experienced the feeding tube yet no doubt will in the future , the modulin is bareable for me if mixed with nestle
